Long-term Apple user here (Mac, iPhone, iPad), was curious about the watch. I found a nice deal yesterday for a Series 9, bought it, unboxed. Started to pair it to my iPhone 8, the pairing requires iOS 17 🤦‍♂️

Going to return it tomorrow, it has been fun reading ya all!

Lol, had the same thing happen to me. However, I already wanted to upgrade my iPhone 8 after 5 years of service, so in the end it just hastened the whole process.

iPhone 8 doesn’t get IOS 17 is why

It could be a good excuse for a new iPhone...

I considered this possibility, but then realised that I am still happy with my current iPhone. It still works very well in my everyday life, and I never feel the real need to upgrade it. Honestly, apart from a much better camera, I don't know what I really will appreciate in an iPhone 15 that will change my experience (if you know about possible features I am not considering please let me know).

Although the picture may change now that the software won't be upgraded anymore, so let's see how it will age in the next months.

I think that iPhone 8 is jsut about the finished iPhone. What comes after that is a ton of "new tail lights and fenders" in order to keep selling iPhones.

There is one particular feature, though, which is available on Pro models from iPhone 12 Pro. That is the LIDAR addition to the cameras. This makes it possible to do 3D scans of rooms and objects with apps like Polycam. - I have that, but I must admit that even though the hardware is OK there is a a long way to go for the apps.

So staying on iPhone 8 and getting a compatible watch is the sensible solution. - If you need an. Apple watch at all. I use my Watch 6 for a lot of very practical purposes with different apps/complications. But none of all that fitness stuff. I'm 72.
