The... president is literally an accused pedophile and is named in the files he won't let be fully released. Don't pretend the people in power care about protecting children!

Maybe they don't want the competition?

Roblox seems to be a platform for low-income pedophiles to find dates, so Congress is willing to look in to this one.

Congress then proceeds to look the other way.

So the age verification didnt work?

[-] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 6 points 4 days ago

Someone told.me it made the problem worse. Predators would easily get into whatever age range they want and well intentioned people outside the narrow age band can't notice or.provide help.

Maybe we shouldn't let the roblox groomers (one got caught and he was a WV state house rep) write the laws

it was always meant for surveillance of dissidents, the "age" thing was a ruse.

Letting predators put themselves in spaces exclusively inhabited by children by tricking the age identification system is the one thing we didn't want to happen

[-] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 2 points 4 days ago

To me it seems this was always the purpose because it was never going to work.

So congress wants to protect children from loot boxes, but not rapey old perverts? Sounds about right.

[-] stefenauris@pawb.social 7 points 4 days ago

I thought the government was primarily composed of people who hurt children

It is crazy that a platform essentially ran on child labor also allows predators on said platform and some what protects them by sweeping the problem under the rug and hiding it.

Also the fact that everything's in robucks kind of reminds me of those old sugar mill/mining towns where they invented their own money to keep people enslaved.

What's crazier too is I completely forget about roblox, but everytime I hear it in the news it has quadrupled in size. I consider myself into gaming and roblox completely escapes my content feeds, and its pretty much larger then the entire gaming industry combined. Or at least was. So I don't know how parents can keep up with all this stuff.

I’m skeptical they will do anything besides fine Roblox or implement more gross age verifications.

Roblox does have a really big problem. I know a kid who met predators on Roblox.

Roblox is unlike other children’s games because it’s more like a chatroom with games rather than a game with chat. That coupled with the fact that 60% of the user base is under 16yo is dangerous.

Parents think it looks like Minecraft and assume that means it is safe, but it’s not.

Grooming happens on Roblox but the actual crimes take place in private Discord servers.
