Gender identity among adolescents initiating hormone therapy is "highly stable," the authors write.

While I love that right-wingers are constantly wrong about pretty mich all things, did anyone like... suspect otherwise?

We have known for a while now that pretty much every "opinion" (I am cheritable with that word here) they hold on the topic is rife with propaganda, hate and bigotry.

I add it to the pile they will never read and that we can push into their faces.

Edit: Spelling

I work with a lot of conservatives. Talking about studies like this and pushing back gently really does work, at least on an individual level. It's frustrating and slow moving, but I've been able to get them to stop and think about what respecting others really means.

It's like the bullshit asymmetry principle. You can spend months working on a conservative, getting them to trust you, and nudge their world-view from "hateful" to "iffy". Meanwhile, they half-watch fox news for an hour and are ready to put {out-group} into a death camp.

It sucks. It feels unfair. Why do we have to do all this work when they're the fuckups?

I do it because I work with them every day and, if you've seen me around Lemmy enough, I can't keep my mouth shut.

I wouldn't work on these people unless they were in my family, coworkers, or otherwise.

Yep, and this is one of the best things cis allies can do to help

We’ve known this. The study that showed people regretting transition that hateful people point to? They left out the fine print. The regret came from being treated like shit by awful people.

This data is really not new at all.

Levels of Satisfaction and Regret With Gender-Affirming Medical Care in Adolescence

We have also known that detransition is largely caused by external factors, not "turning out not to be trans":

Factors Leading to “Detransition” Among Transgender and Gender Diverse People in the United States: A Mixed-Methods Analysis

Edit: I really don't know why this comment looks so broken in Photon. It looks fine on the default Lemmy UI.

Everybody has regrets. Some say it's better to regret what you have done, rather than what you haven't done.

That's an interesting caveat. What about the ones not on hormone therapy?

Conservatives be thinking about everyone’s genitals way more than they do.

Especially the genitals of kids.

That's why their mantra is think of the children

New Study same as the Old Study.

We're going to keep churning out studies. They're going to keep churning out violence against trans people.

Yep glad to have more evidence.

Anecdotally my identity did shift around that age going from nonbinary to binary female, and it was largely related to allowing myself to accept myself, experimenting with identities, and self reflection. Getting to hormones was extremely difficult.

And I do know someone who went from identifying as a binary man and taking T to nonbinary and not taking it. They're still glad they took it long enough to have some voice and hair changes, they just didn't like the emotional changes. They later got top surgery and were very glad to do so.

this one has been irritating me because of all the maple maga regurgitating it yet I've seen no evidence (edit: of anyone regretting it). what are they even basing it off of? Is it like that whole indians shitting on beaches thing where some fuckers just staged a video of it and every idiot in town took it to mean it was real and commonplace, and just ate it up and smeared it all over themselves and made it part of their shitty hive mind identity?
