Wearable HUD glasses were something I was so keen to finally get in the tech roadmap for the last 20 years.
Now the tech is utterly fucking ruined because a bunch of billionaire parasites have to keep their grubby fingers on everyones data for their shitty enterprises
To be honest, when Google Glass came out, I was kinda excited by the technology in hopes of the development and experience of augmented reality. Google was less evil then (but still well on its way to becoming evil).
In Neil Stephenson's Snow Crash A gargoyle is someone who walks around continuously jacked into the internet (called the Metaverse -- before Facebook took the Meta moniker). Gargoyles can look up anything at any moment, and could totally be annoying for the speed at which information was at the ready for them.
Hiro Protagonist (the main character; Yes, that's his name.) eventually becomes a gargoyle in the course of the story.
I totally wanted to be a gargoyle.
I am a pervert, but I don't perv on people without their consent, so yeah, no AR for me.
Obviously not a fan of meta or surveillance but it might be nice to get all those creepy moments on record or at least make people more afraid to act that way in the first place.
Better than walking away and questioning whether or not it actually happened. Potential to print out pictures and publicity humiliate people who make it harder to participate in society.
