[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 weeks ago* (1 child) Fairphone is good tbh, the big issue imo is that compared to GOS its security is seriously lacking. You could go for a Jolla community phone, perhaps? That one runs Linux through Sailfish OS. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 4 points 4 weeks ago (2 children) Fairphone is good, yes, but it's also like 500€, and that's too much for a phone IMO - I'm not saying that they're not worth it, but that's a lot of money for something that's so easily lost or broken. Even factoring in Fairphone's superior repairability, it's a hard sell for me. Haven't looked into Jolla for a while. But these are the first two sentences on their website: Jolla is a Finnish company specializing in privacy-first OS and Edge AI solutions. Founded in 2011, we continue the legacy of Nokia and MeeGo, driving mobile innovation into the human-centric AI era. Can't say this inspires much confidence. Probably still better than Google Pixel, though, so I'm going to look into that some more. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) almost forgot, but here's also a whole ass list I made of things and services made, owned, and/or based in Europe! for the phone OS stuff, check out this one permalink fedilink source parent [–] doctorflynt@feddit.org 2 points 4 weeks ago as far as i know the ai part from jolla is not integrated into their phones but they sell an ai-pc or something where you can selfhost a llm with. permalink fedilink source parent
