Grave of the Fireflies will make you cry so fucking hard you'll never want to watch it again. Especially if you have siblings.
Lots of anime tbh, but I've noticed KyoAni stuff is the best at it
It's gotta be LOOK BACK. It's a very human story.
Demon Slayer made me cry tears of boredom if that counts?
Endings can kinda get to me. Not the end of a show necessarily, but the end of a story. It often happens at the end of a show, but not always. The best example that comes to mind is actually a video game called Season letters to Tomorrow (or something like that). Without spoilers you leave your home and it's as sad as it is uplifting, and then you document the last day of a town before it's destroyed. There are other endings that you get to document too, big and small, and all of them are framed as emotionally complex.
I think I'm just a nostalgic person, because ancient ruins and stories in that context also get me. Girls front line was sad long before the ending! Maybe it's because i was born in the late 90s and i saw the world getting better before it started getting worse.
I did cry at the ending of Angel Beats
I'm born close to the water as they say.
- Violent Evergarden
- a place further than the universe
- Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
In short: emotionally loaded
Grave of the Fireflies.
I can only watch it once
Apart from anime with traditionally sad scenes like Violet Evergarden or Gintama, I have the strange ability to cry about cute girls doing cute things slice of life anime π . Like Non Non Biyori, K-ON, Gochiusa. I really like the tender and soft moments. For example that scene where Chino-chan decides to lean against Cocoa-chan and Mocha-chan. It's a bit sad, but mostly it is just so sweet and pure and tender.
To me one of the most precious effects an anime can have is when it makes me cry without the scene being sad. The queen of this has to be ARIA. Of course that one scene with Alice. But also just Alicia explaining why she doesn't get angry to Alice. The iyashikei just hits so hard I start feeling that being alive is wonderful. Those are my favorite tears!
K-On was devastating tbh. CGDCT anime are typically very happy-go-lucky, so any emotional moment hits pretty hard.
Episode 10 of Violet Evergarden is the only time I cried while watching anime.
Ann πππ. Definitely my favorite episode. The letter to Gilbert did me in as well. When she looks at the camera I'm so done for...
Stupid answer but: anything that moves me π
The easiest way is through a mother's death. The ones that come to mind are:
meta spoiler; multiple anime titles
- that one episode of DanDaDan
- that one episode of Violet Evergarden
- first episode of Oshi no Ko
Others that I've found moving include:
- Gundam: The Witch from Mercury
- Umamusume season 2
- Angel Beats
- Belle
- 86
I guess a common theme is that these anime feature characters who persevered through hardships? Can't remember the plot of Angel Beats since it's been a while since I watched it.
Edit: Incidentally, WfM, Uma S2 and 86 are my top 3 anime.
86 always gets me. It doesn't matter that I know what's going to happen. I always end up crying.
Grave of the Fireflies
Season 1 of My Hero Academia. There's just something about Deku trying so hard and caring so much. Makes me cry every time. By far my favorite anime season ever.
I wish the whole series was that good but it just gets worse every season. Don't even get me started on that abomination of a finale.
I am very easily moved to tears by movies and tv. From anime, episode 5 of Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky is the latest example.
Movies: Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms, A Silent Voice
Series: Your Lie in April, Angel Beats!, Sword Art Online: Mother's Rosary (last 7 episodes of season 2), Clannad
Viralβs alternate reality toward the end of Gurren Lagann. </3
