Hey there !

I'm a long time time user of Bitwarden extensions for Desktop browsers and Android Firefox. Yesterday I wanted to try IronFox on my phone and searched for the Bitwarden browser extension. Couldn't find it anywhere, it seems android browser service has been discontinued. This issue has been reported in the bitwarden forum and in the bitwarden subreddit.

Answers from the subreddit mostly consist of "just install the mobile app" and aren't actually helping. No dev answered either.

Overall the service has been discontinued and I couldn't find any communication regarding the removal of the addon from Firefox store, which is very unusual. So I'm taking a shot here, if anyone has more info on the matter, or an actual link to something official.

Also did some research regarding Bitwarden statement that "browser extension available in the Firefox and Edge browsers on Android mobile devices (...) are not officially supported by Bitwarden" :

  • I can't find any 'unofficial' repo dedicated to Bitwarden browser addon for Android devices
  • My previous extension for android firefox states that 'Bitwarden Inc.' is the official author (so they likely published it) and redirects to the official Bitwarden website and to the official Bitwarden for Firefox addon
  • Found a commit from the official Git that includes a lil upgrade for Android devices.

What do you have against the Bitwarden app? I've found the app works with most android browsers, including ironfox, and other android apps as well. I've also found the android browser extensions for bitwarden don't work reliably.

I don't have anything against the Bitwarden app. As said the mobile app is not the subject of this thread.

About my preference toward the extension : I tend to limit the perimeter of the tools I use to the environment in which they are applicable. My browser is the only space where I have to fill passwords on my phone, so I prefer having a service within my browser with a limited scope.

I've also noticed some issues with the extension but they don't bother me in my daily use, and wouldn't justify an entire removal with no com' imo.
