I just started using BasicSync and I like how it's basically just the regular webUI
I just started using BasicSync, and can agree. The fact that it is more reliant on the UI from Syncthing rather than a UI on top of Syncthing is appreciated. Super simple.
I still use Syncthing-Fork. It also is available in F-Droid. There are some other apps like BasicSync or SyncUp in F-Droid. Maybe you can try those.
Mostly out of the loop, I use this fork as well. Apps distributed on the F-Droid repo are OSS, built from source, and screened for malware.
If the fork is no longer maintained I expect it to be removed from the repo, that should be announced on the blog with the regular app news.
It is maintained, there is just a different lead dev.

My personal conclusion was to use BasicSync. It's a minimal wrapper around the upstream shared codebase of syncthing itself, and it's so far been very stable and reliable. Security-wise and in terms of risks of abandonment, this approach also makes sense for me. I use it since.
I did install this, and I am lliking it's simplicity and reliance on Syncthing itself for configuration.
The new owner had posted in the Syncthing forum and has catfriend1. I'm comfortable using the fork.
Hey glad to hear there are people comfortable using it and aren't still sketched out. As the communication to the change was rather alarming. And since then I had not used it, as I am one of those folks that appreciate transparency. It does build trust.
Had it been handled differently, such as Catfriend1 putting out a statement leading up to it; I would have been much less apprehensive. Granted it was catfriend1's project, and they are free to do what they see fit with their project; but it does burn trust with the folks using it if handled such as the way it was.
I totally agree and I feel the same.
syncthing fork ran just fine always enabled. Basicsync seems to suck down my battery like crazy
someone posted about https://f-droid.org/packages/com.chiller3.basicsync/ during the "turmoil around the repo owner changing hands, and the lack of communication around it" and i've been using it ever since.
it is lighter and it works as well
Thank you, I will absolutely be checking this out. Luckily F-Droid is compatible with Obtainium; though I will likely see if I can find the repo for it
Thank you! I did find it from the fdroid page too, and I have installed it. I quite like it so far!
I use the version before the change. There's some easy instructions to run it as a Linux package (? Sorry not sure of the terminology) as android can do that. The only issue is you dont have a direct GUI and need to use the web interface. I believe its much smaller and more efficient than any app, not to mention uses the "official" version.
I use Syncthing-Fork and it works great for me. The only problem I have is the "Run for 5 minutes" tile.
I am considering it. But wasn't sure if there was fear in the changing of hands to this new guy.
