What is it with Americans and criticising British teeth when Americans, as records show year on year for many decades in world dental health figures, have terrible teeth health and more missing teeth compared to Brits.

It's definitely not just the Yanks making fun of British teeth

I just heard the explaination, that it wasnt that common for Europeans to remake our teeth for Show bussiness. So Brits, as the English Speaking Europeans and by that most visible celebrities in American TV, had natural or worse looking teeth unlike the celebrities from the states - the medical condition didnt play a role in there. Kinda makes sense to me.

I think Alex Horne from Taskmaster was surprised at how many people criticized his teeth. He does have bad teeth though 😛

I don't like defending Americans too much especially when they're absolute snowflakes when we take shots back but they also make fun of other Americans with bad teeth. Mainly if you're from the South or Alabama or some state.

I've heard a few radio contests where a local dental clinic will offer mouth makeovers as prizes. Of course the shows make the people do demeaning things, but every time they have done a follow up with the winners, it's very bittersweet. They would always end up sobbing that their whole lives people have made them ashamed to smile, usually because they grew up poor and couldn't afford to have their teeth fixed as kids.

I couldn't imagine what it must feel like to have the simple joy of smiling taken away from you. It drives me crazy that dental care isn't considered health care. Just being able to afford getting their teeth fixed sounded like it made such a huge difference in these people's health and happiness, it seemed the equivalent of being able to treat a person go give them back hearing or sight.

It's embarrassing we still withhold basic services from people and that so many will still condone mocking others for being born poor essentially like it was some dumb choice they made.

This comment isn't directed at anyone here, the quoted remark just kinda triggered some memories for me of my journey to where I'm at now morally and politically.

My friend had a neighbour called fingers - after the appearance of her three teeth.

Every country has their spectacular citizens.

And they have to pay significantly more for healthcare in general.

It's not the health of them, it's how they're arranged.

Yeah this is like the third post like this I’ve seen this week and apart from being unoriginal and unfunny, it’s also fucking childish and shitty.

At least it lets me know who to block, since I know anything else they have to say is also likely to be of no value.

You boast about the copious data showing American teeth are worse than British but link to none of it.

EDIT: laughing at downvotes that also come with no evidence

[-] Racoonwithbenefits@lemmy.zip 10 points 5 days ago

The white color in the british flag should be changed to earl gray-brown

[-] stickyprimer@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

The red is from even worse times when everyone’s gums bled constantly

[-] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 0 points 4 days ago

You mean earl gray with milk beige?

So excited to visit Wales!

In Nigeria, a tooth gap is considered attractive. Maybe that explains their flag as well.
