I don’t use reddit anymore, BUT for the majority of casual users who aren’t techies or don’t really care where they get their content from, reddit is still a step up from tiktok or instagram. With 10s of millions of daily users and 100s of millions of active users, there’s really not any other service that offers that size of a community that you can interact with.

The Fediverse has promise, but people want a monolithic app that does everything for them and requires little work to get up and running. As much as we hoped our exodus would bring reddit crashing to its knees, it hasn’t happened and it’s still chugging along. I’ve been on Lemmy since The Great Sundering, but it still has a host of problems that average people just won’t cope with. At the moment, reddit is still better than Lemmy, but that doesn’t mean it will always be like that.
