One for the "The Adeptus Mechanicus is too far-fetched" crowd...

The funniest thing is not only did they not follow Christianity, but they also routinely killed followers of the Abrahamic faiths that were precursors to it

[-] stringere@sh.itjust.works 4 points 23 hours ago

Golly, they sacrificed the followers of a Canaanite war god who have a habit of becoming oppresors and tyranta every time their faith becomes the dominant one in a culture?

Sign me up.

We finally found those fabled Good Old Days

[-] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Take me back!!!

Considering the period of "classical" Greece is mostly considered as having ended around 323 BC with the death of Alexander and hellenistic Greece ending around 145 BC with the roman conquest, I'd be REALLY suprised if they were christian.

Oh, and I nearly forgot this is about a game:

The game's plot tells a mythological history of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta from 431 to 422 BCE.

I had to explain to my idiot brother that not only did the verse he loves quoting actually say "you shall not lie with young boys as with woman" but that it was actually a jab at.....ancient Greece.

He hasn't spoken to me in a year

[-] luthis@lemmy.nz 6 points 2 days ago

Really?? From memory that Leviticus (or exodus?) Quote specifically said woman, are you referring to an earlier translation?

[-] Rivermoonwolf@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Dammit, you're right. Will edit. Can I use caffeine deficiency as an excuse?

[-] AnarchistArtificer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I don't think you need an excuse when it's a low stakes matter where you acknowledged your mistake and corrected yourself

[-] luthis@lemmy.nz 11 points 2 days ago

No. Considering anyone who tries to use that verse to condemn gayness will then go and wear fabrics of different cloth, you don't need an excuse at all

If English was good enough for Jesus it's good enough for everyone else.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Man, people are stupid. It's amazing what people don't know.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

And the confidence with which they say this kind of shit. It's astounding.

[-] luthis@lemmy.nz 6 points 2 days ago

It's a choice. We have the internet and unlimited knowledge. If people are still stupid, it's because they choose to be.

Could go into a philosophical debate about the illusion of free choice here. But long answer short, brainwashing and social conditioning are very, very hard to break. Religious trauma wouldn't be an entire specialty of cognitive behavioral therapy if it were like swapping to skim milk.

I've been in situations where, when trying to find the answer to a question no one knows the answer to, I'll suggest we look it up, only to be met with something like "or we could just have a conversation like people".

There's quite a bit of tech aversion going around.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah that's how I think about it too

[-] Septimaeus@infosec.pub 4 points 2 days ago

Oh yeah? Well then how come Ancient Greek philosophers are depicted as saints throughout St Peter’s basilica? Checksum Atheists.
