The Israeli army eventually declared the area a closed military zone, kicked out the activists, and allowed the settlers to remain.

The settlers are led by Avishai Horowitz, Zohar Sabah and Neriya Ben Pazi, all of whom are responsible for the expulsion of several Palestinian communities in the area, including Ras al-Auja.
