I had good luck with IP over power lines from my camera box to my house years ago. You do need to get the end points on the same branch circuit. It was far superior to any of the wifi solutions I tried.
Interesting... Last time I tried IP over power lines, I was really disappointed by the throughput. Having said that, maybe I didn't do it right, and also it was the late 90's, so maybe the technology wasn't quite there yet ๐
Any brand / model in particular you would recommend?
I went pretty cheap and had good results, I don't remember the brand, it was about a decade ago. Like I said, the only trick was to keep the two end points on the same circuit. If it had to go through the breaker box, there tended to be problems. Also any motors on that circuit will blast the signal. So there's definite caveats, but if it fits your situation they do work.
Take a look at Mikrotik hardware. They have outdoor access points and wireless bridges that you can adapt to your scenario. Also check out their forums, the community is usually pretty good at suggesting reasonable solutions.
I'll check them out, thanks for the tip!
