“If Trump was putting his name behind it, it must be a legitimate investment,” one woman told the news organization.

“This is a woman who spoke to Reuters,” Bash said. “She put $2,000 of her savings into the $TRUMP meme at the end of May. Her $TRUMP holding was worth less than $120, she now thinks it was just a pump-and-dump scheme. The second investor, Matt, a 45-year-old machinist in Indiana, put $40,000 into $TRUMP family tokens … Matt’s shares have dropped 79% in value since he bought them for a loss of about $32,700. He does not blame the Trump family.”

Fuck all investors and/or stock market players on all sides. There is no such thing as easy money, unless it's at the expense of someone else. Greedy pigs, playing with tokens of questionable value, deserve what they get.

everyone but MAGATS know it was a way for billionaires and putin to funnel money to him.

Didn't it already pump and dump when it was released?

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 hour ago

I also remember reading that trading the coin was disabled for everyone but a select few people. Meaning the coins are actually worth $0 because even if you time it right, you literally cannot send the coin anywhere.

Unless that was about another scam coin they did. Hard to keep track.

Also, Hunter's laptop, guys. It's a really big deal, guys.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I've heard of that meme coin thing before. Isn't that what happened to that spit girl?

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 59 minutes ago* (last edited 59 minutes ago)

I tried finding the article I remember reading but couldn't find it. Was only finding articles about people getting scammed and then saying it's not Trump's fault. And I had to give up the search before being forced to actually kill myself.

spit girl

I dunno what you're referring to...

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 16 minutes ago

Hawk tuah girl who dragged out her 15 minutes to 6 months. $HAWK founders were charged by SEC for pumping and dumping $490M. Case is still in court. She was originally not in the lawsuit, but then she was investigated, but by 2026 they concluded she was just a paid spokesperson and they dropped her from the suit.

I have zero sympathy for investors looking to make free money. Work for your money.

[-] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 45 minutes ago

Just another meme coin person. She gave an interview with that channel 5 guy. She mentioned that nobody could really do anything with the coin because it was frozen and either that was illegal or what was occuring while it was frozen.

A speculation only market and these meme coins seem bunk from the word go.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 33 minutes ago

Yeah, but there are at least ones that a lucky person could time, and sell around the same time as the people who are orchestrating the scam, and make a lot of money.

In this case, I'm pretty sure they couldn't even do that.

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 hours ago

Many shitcoins do it multiple times, they just rarely reach their previous high.

[-] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

OMG is this real? I'm stealing it. It's mine now.

[-] hark@lemmy.world 20 points 8 hours ago

Classic trump and dump.

[-] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 25 points 8 hours ago

They bought the hats, which turned out to be cheap trash

They bought the gold shoes, which turned out to be junk

The bought the knife which was gas station knife quality

They bought the phone which turned out to be cheap and outdated

They bought the coin which turned out to be a scam

But those gold and silver coins will be...those will be worth the investment

/S

[-] Captain_Patchy@lemmy.world 12 points 7 hours ago

Anyone stupid enough to buy this memecoin thinking that anyone but trump would make money on it is suffering from the real trump derangement syndrome.

Many of my coworkers are trumpers and they love to talk about "trump derangement syndrome". Whenever they bring it up I agree with them and say "yes, trump is highly deranged" and they get all apoplectic. "That's not what it means!"

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

If you're not angry nearly to be point of derangement by now, then fuck you you're part of the problem

[-] kreskin@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago

I love that he pump and dumped his own supporters. He screwed them on the trump phones too. I think they should keep giving trump their money so they can become penniless and experience Trumps attack on social services and food aid. Chefs kiss.

I had a friend in college back in the '80s who was a born-again Christian and a big Jim and Tammy Faye Baker supporter. After their scams and shenanigans had been publicly exposed. And it wasn't even that he didn't believe the news about them -- he did believe they were scammers and kept sending them most of what little money he had. If you want me to explain that mindset, I absolutely can't. It's something along the lines of "God works through disreputable people sometimes".

For me, what's so mysterious is not that people like this can be cheated out of their money. It's that people like this have any money to begin with.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

It's fucking peasant brain. Getting very popular again these days.

[-] popekingjoe@lemmy.world 79 points 12 hours ago

These people are in a cult.

[-] nickiwest@lemmy.world 35 points 11 hours ago

How do you deprogram millions of people? Seriously, it's hard for cult members to re-integrate back into society without support.

I worry about what happens when their 80-year-old leader dies (to be clear, that's an inevitability, not a specific wish) and they leave the Republican party but have nowhere to turn for community.

that’s an inevitability

My fear is that when he dies, they'll just replace him with a body double. My even bigger fear is that they've already done that.

[-] blitzen@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 hours ago

to be clear, that's an inevitability, not a specific wish

Why not? I'm actively rooting for it.

[-] athatet@lemmy.zip 7 points 7 hours ago

Just to be extra clear, for me, it is, in fact, a specific wish.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 40 points 10 hours ago

Education. Why do you think fascists hate it

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 12 points 9 hours ago

they will latch-on to whoever spews the same lies and hate the loudest.

[-] Hikermick@lemmy.world 19 points 11 hours ago

It's been a cult for long before Trump came along, it was a cult looking for a leader. I googled "how to break people free from a cult" back in 2011. What i got out of it was you have to let people figure it out themselves. Confronting them makes them dig in deeper. Best thing to do is not make them fear an "I told you so" moment. We all have our pride

I invested all my money in Itchy and Scratchy money

[-] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 8 points 8 hours ago

So you are saying it is a great time to invest?

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 10 points 8 hours ago

You could probably talk the same people who lost 98% of their "investment" to buy the dip

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 11 minutes ago

Buy what... that's the beauty of coins, you don't even get a coin.

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 159 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

a loss of about $32,700. He does not blame the Trump family.

wtf.

Galatians 6:7-8.

reap what you sow, morons.

[-] spinne@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 hour ago

He probably knew what to expect, but thought he had a better "system" that would let him be part of the pump and dump profiteers by getting in and getting out faster than the other schmucks who were being taken for a ride. (If he'd read the terms that locked him into holding it for years before being allowed to sell, he might've figured out that he was about to become a schmuck who'd be taken for a ride.)

Anyway, it's not gambling if you win every time!

[-] reluctant_squidd@lemmy.ca 63 points 13 hours ago

Perfect example of how deep his supporters are in.

There is nothing that could sway them.

Except maybe the Epstein files, which are already seemingly forgotten about by most people.

Whoever bought those coins IMO deserves everything they get. Mind you in this case it’s less.

[-] belunos@lemmus.org 45 points 12 hours ago

I've lost the ability to feel sympathy for folks that lose money on meme coins, no matter where they come from.

How can you lose your savings and thank the man who took it from you?

[-] ZpbkPEcaHhIveqdR@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

It could be that it saves face, admitting they were wrong means admitting a lot of what they believe is also wrong and it can be very difficult to admit to that
