New 15” M2 Air (8gb / 512gb) for $1200 or Used 16” M1Pro (16gb / 512gb) for $1400 (alien.top)

Title says it. is it worth it to get a used M1 Pro for $200 more?

I unfortunately missed out on a crazy deal last week so now I’m shopping again. With all the sales going on I can’t seem to pull the trigger on anything.

My workload is literally just having 3-6 internet tabs and excel open at the same time. At times I will also have a google meets meeting going on with the other things.

I don’t care about the speakers, the display is whatever to me because this is just a work machine. And the camera / mic are great on both. Screen size does matter though, that’s why I want 15 or 16.

So all I really care about is getting 6ish years for that workload.

With all that, is it worth going for the slightly older 16” for the extra $200?

M1 pro is miles above M2, but both are gonna crush your workload. With double the ram, the pro will perform much better in a couple years compared to the air, even though the air might get maybe 1 year more of software updates. I’d recommend the pro, purely for the ram and better chip giving more room for better performance in the future.
