Black Friday deals are not deals anymore. I often find better prices at random times of the year. I'm also in Canada, and nomatter where I look hard drives are always on "sale" a 20tb is listed at around 800 bucks regular hahaha. 22.50 per TB is a regular sale basically. Pre pandemic western digital had a sale where some were 18.50 per TB but I haven't seen those prices ever since. This summer 18 TB wd went down to 22.70 per TB for their sale. Sales seem to be dictated by the manufacturer so doesn't really matter where you shop. They have the same price.

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.
