Is this some sort of premature bullying, after dev already opened up on current affairs and the near future?

Idk... he informed the community about last week, I suppose even If he coded like a manic monkey straight through there are still the the app store App release gods that need to have mercy... so no 🫢

Already installed Voyager and patiently waiting for the update for Bean. If it's get released, I'm happy to use it because I paid 35€ for Lifetime. If not I will use Voyager and be mad at myself paying 35€.

Ah... I still have faith. I mean communication could have been slightly better cough, cough , but after all it is a two man gig which is more prone to hard times. I anticipated kind of a growing process, when buying. Christian's Apollo for reddit was the playbook example how it could be. On the other hand dev of the mastodon woolly App went dark on all outlets... that leaves me wondering if something bad happened to him.

I see it that way. If the (indie) product is nice, I would like to support the dev behind it. Period.

Here in Germany entrepreneurs have to calculate their manpower with at least 80-90 € per hour when offering contracts, just to have a sustainable business. I understand the scaling effects but 35 € is quite modest with that calculation in mind (even though regular workers have to put in some working hours to afford the 35 € :). Im curios if this offer is sustainable after all.

I’m holding out hope. I really enjoy using Bean, and do think Steve cares. Life does a really good job of getting complicated at bad times. From a personal perspective, I’ve had zero time to work on side projects or enjoy hobbies in what feels like forever. So, I’m giving Steve the benefit of the doubt.

And, in a very worst case scenario, it’s just an app and $30. If Bean ends up dying, I’ll move on to Thunder, or Lemma, or Mlem, or Memmy, or Avelon, and know that all will be good.

I am skeptical and don’t expect much. At this point I have all but written off my lifetime membership. In retrospect, it was rather suspicious how quickly went from TestFlight to full release. Communication was almost insulting. Shit happens, but informing as setbacks happen (however brief) garners so much more goodwill than going silent and then posting an apology, especially if you let someone else do it and even more so right after starting to charge for features that were previously free on an app that while looking polished had serious issues with stability and memory leaks

Regardless of the circumstances and events, this way of doing things completely destroys credibility and trust in the future of the product and the developer.

I really want it to succeed and hope the developer really puts in sufficient remedial action to somewhat mend the damage done, but at this point I am not holding much hope for little more than the bare minimum, if anything
