They are the freaking same.

[-] Elting@piefed.social 24 points 1 week ago

If it aint fix, dont broke it. I am kinda hoping this one flops and kills AAA games. Gamers are depraved though, and they will probably just lower their standards.

[-] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago

At this point it's branding. I have no problem with it.

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 25 points 1 week ago

Yup, that's definitely a GTA cover.

[-] JakoJakoJako13@piefed.social 18 points 1 week ago

People really gonna trash on a unique style that dates back to 2Fucking000 and the PAL version of GTA2? We really got nothing to do so we complain about game covers? Come on now.

Will it be better than 5 or just have more hardware demands?

I'm just hoping it won't be one of those "you must be connected to the internet even if you're playing solo" deals.

[-] flandish@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

this game gonna be like 50 bucks right?

[-] Link@rentadrunk.org 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I’d be surprised if it isn’t triple digits.

[-] Fleur_@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

I am going to push someone into those crocodiles

[-] etherphon@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

so long for this game to come out and the cover looks the same as one they did 20 years ago, way to go guys, amazing work truly

[-] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago

At this point, no matter what they do, people are going to complain. A lot. Case in point being your comment.

[-] etherphon@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

fair enough I suppose, it is a pretty lose lose situation that way, anyways I guess it lets you know what you are getting

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

It's also the same general style of cover Rockstar has used for literally every GTA game they've ever made, so...

Why would it change now?

[-] etherphon@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I dunno. To be perfectly honest I don't really think we need an updated version of this gangster simulator, it's outdated, but that's just my lame ass take :P

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

I mean it hasn't really been a gangster simulator since San Andreas. And even then, CJ was never part of a gang during the time you played as him.

[-] etherphon@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Alright crime simulator anyways, I dunno, I know it's just a game and all but the glorification of all of that business just seems like not a super great thing right now considering we have a crime syndicate in charge of our country. It feels like a relic to me but maybe I'm just an optimist.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

GTA doesn't really glorify that lifestyle though? At least in 5 it's made clear that none of the protagonists are particularly happy with their lives even though they're career criminals. In fact they even get blackmailed by a government agency into doing more illegal shit just so they don't get disappeared to a black site and never heard from again.

[-] etherphon@piefed.social 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, I get that, none of those games or movies really glorify that life because what's to glorify really, but it's just the constant exposure to the wanton violence of the game and people's worst instincts kicking in. I don't really have anything against the game or whatever, I will just be interested to see if it's ever studied about how those games affect peoples attitude towards violence and might erode their ethics in some ways such as turning a blind eye to violence going on around them. Just thoughts anyways. I feel the same way about the Battlefield/Modern Warfare games and horror movies that are basically just torture porn with no redeeming social messages or anything. Anyways, I'm probably being way too serious for a game people use to blow off steam but it's worth a discussion probably, for someone, sometime :P

Well, except GTA 1, both GTA Londons and GTA2

So, except for half the games.

Either way this is the current style. I thought GTA2 was a neat cover.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

It's been the style of cover since GTA3

So for 3, VC, SA, LCS, VCS, 4, Episodes, and 5.

That's about 8-ish games that had this style of cover art. That's more than half.

[-] prettybunnys@piefed.social 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That's about 8-ish games that had this style of cover art. That's more than half.

So literally not all of them then?

5 without, 8 with.

I apologize my “half” statement was imprecise . . .

It's also the same general style of cover Rockstar has used for literally every GTA game they've ever made, so...

my point was that they LITERALLY have not always used this style, and that’s all.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'd also argue that any GTA made before 3 hasn't been relevant in probably 30 years or so.

Also, it's only 4 games before GTA3 and the art style change. Not sure hey you said 5.

Edit: I also forgot about Advance and Chinatown Wars, which both had the same modern cover.

[-] prettybunnys@piefed.social -3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Do us both a solid and go look up the box art, I am positive there will be fandom sites dedicated just to this.

It’s easy, you can count them. It’s 5. Advance had grey box art but included art like the GTA 3.

5 is more than 0 which is what it would take for literally all of them to be one way.

Sorry you believe the games that defined the series are irrelevant, that’s irrelevant to the impetus of my statement.

[-] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Haven't played since GTA:SA...but, it continues to be the exact same game every time, but with added cinematic realism elements and graphics, right? A few more vehicle models to drive? A few more weapons to shoot? Different interaction options and new dialogue? Sexier sex stuff. Seems like a good, if stagnant, business model that retains its play appeal pretty well as long as it adds just a little bit more than the last version had.

[-] MurrayL@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

Same energy as my dad, who says he doesn’t like modern FPS games because he played Duke Nukem 3D back in 1996 and ‘they’re all the same’.

[-] wjrii@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

LOL, everybody knows you couldn't stop playing FPS games until you'd played Quake 2.

Duh.

[-] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Quake 3 arena would like a word

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Different story, 10x better GPU.

[-] Weirdfish@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

A little bit more is a giant understatement.

The Rage 9 game engine is a giant leap forward in many underlying video game systems.

Rage 8, which powers Red Dead Redemption 2 was basically just a prototype test bed for GTA VI.

Obviously we'll have to wait and see what all actually works and got integrated in VI, but consistently the numbered releases of GTA since III have redefined what is possible in gaming and game engines.

[-] charokol@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

The worlds are more and more impressive, but the core gameplay loop still has not changed much since III.

[-] Weirdfish@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

The game play loop is the same, but the tech between III and IV is radically different, Euphoria is something special.

[-] Elting@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

Is that the engine which allows you to simulate a space program in IV? Used to be pretty fun to drive into that swing set just to see where you would end up.

[-] Fleur_@aussie.zone 7 points 1 week ago

GTA is GTA? No way!

[-] plutopos@lemmy.zip -2 points 1 week ago

Please do not abbreviate San Andreas
