I'm about to switch to FTTH 1gb up and down. I have an old rt-ac68u in my basement that does cover the house up to the 2nd floor I'm trying to improve coverage and speed for the WiFi.

I want to keep the main router downstairs since I need ethernet connection to my PC for gaming.

Should I buy the AX86UPRO? It's currently on black Friday special at 259$ CAD. If I do should I use after my old router as a WiFi Mesh network?

The 68U is over a decade old now. You will definitely notice a performance increase with the AX-86U. For one, it doesn't take almost 5 minutes to boot up. And yes you can still use the 68U as part of an AiMesh network.

Thanks for the insight. Would it be better to be in aimesh in WiFi mode or connected? Do you suggest more the AX86UPRO or the ax88upro?
