This is why we have classic Star Trek.

And The Orville.

I love BSG, and The Expanse, but not what comes to mind when I think alternative to Star Trek.

Even For All Mankind gets pretty dark at times.

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

Fair. I'm on a BSG rewatch (maybe 10 or so years since) and it's hitting all the right spots at the moment.

For something that was a response to 9/11 it has aged very well.

[-] autonomous@lemmy.world 27 points 4 days ago

Paramount killed Trek long before this happened 🤷

[-] BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah, Trek ended when Voyager ended. I will never be convinced otherwise.

[-] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 7 points 3 days ago

Hard disagree. I absolutely love every minute of SNW, and Lower Decks is also amazing.

Absolutely. The, "not my Star Trek" crowd has to pretend so hard that old Trek didn't have serious issues. New Trek isn't perfect but a lot of it is really good. Old Trek wasn't perfect, but a lot of it was really good.

enterprise grew on me when I saw how bad it could get when discovery came out.

it's been a long road getting from there to here and I know it's been a long time since the show aired, but its time is finally near.

[-] BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I watched three seasons of Enterprise. Didn't finish it. I think I could have done without it. That was back in 2010, though. Things have gotten much, much worse since then. Maybe it does deserve a revisit.

I do like Scott Bakula. It's hard to not see him as Sam Beckett, though.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

It's hard to not see him as Sam Beckett, though.

it makes the ending easier to swallow.

[-] negativenull@piefed.world 27 points 4 days ago

Trek may be dead, and now Dr Who may be dead. Marvel and Star Wars in decline.

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 32 points 4 days ago

Way to stay on the positive side.

[-] negativenull@piefed.world 14 points 4 days ago

Sorry. The Paramount deal is really bumming me out

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Well, it is your alt account cakeday! Got that goin' for ya.

[-] BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Decline? I figured it Star Wars died a while ago. For me, it ended with the Kyle Katarn erasure. He should be canon, dammit.

[-] scarabic@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

I’m a LOTR nut and we actually look at it as a good outcome if no more LOTR shit can be made, period.

I guess Trek is not like that, though a lot of people seem to think some shows/movies should never have been made.

Just trying to offer a positive spin on franchise death.

[-] Banrik@fedia.io 14 points 4 days ago

And we just lost out on the stargate revival too, as amazon after starting the the media push earlier this year, has now decided to kill it suddenly.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Ecause they didn't want stargate fans fucking wat

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

think about it. SG fans are a specific type of people. people who generally hate Jeff Bozos.

he's so petty I'm sure he had a hand in this decision.

[-] DmMacniel@feddit.org 17 points 4 days ago

So uhm... how many Hollywood Studios are left now? 1...2?

[-] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

All this tells me is that there's a sequel where Spock, er, Star Trek miraculously comes back to life after a time.

[-] sundray@lemmus.org 10 points 4 days ago

I'm hoping!

Uh, the planet might blow up as part of the process, but...

Too big to fail is ALSO too big to care.

The ONLY focus will be money.

[-] limelight79@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

See? All that kneeling in front of the president helped them get what they wanted!

Yup. Continued blind eye to antitrust laws and the world's first trillionaire.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

There’s no way Avatar survives this either.

(As in the bending one, not the blue people one).

[-] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 2 points 3 days ago

The last I heard was on NPR and that some European companies are still blocking it from happening there. I could be wrong and things may have changed. I will see if I can find a source.

The title reminded me of one of my favorite indie albums by a band that died before they became villains and I thought you all would like them.

They’re called Rodeo Ruby Love and named after the singer’s grandmother or something. It’s kind of Weezer meets They Might Be Giants? Maybe?

Anyway, here’s a link if anyone cares: https://youtu.be/HgBfld0v6Dk

ETA: This is my favorite song on the album. By FAR. https://youtu.be/EJREjJJ6uN0

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Thanks for sharing. Mellow and folksy.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

It gets a bit harder. Really I like how they (un)structure their songs. And the lyrics are pretty great.
