Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

what is a good portable SSD or external hard disk (connected via USB ports) for under 100 USD? I only have usb 3.0 ports, should I choose those that allow usb-c connections? can i just use a usb-c to usb-a converter cable and use the SSD or HD via usb 3.0 ports?

is i bad to use a usb-c to usb-a converter cable and use the SSD or HD via usb 3.0 ports ? or would that cause issues like not enough power being directed to the port? does it automatically adjust the current draw?

....

ty. someone recommended me m.2 drive enclosure + samsung 980/970 etc.

is "m.2 drive enclosure" basically a converter for SSDs? also if you connect an SSD with usb-c or usb 3.2 connection type to a usb 3.0 port, via a usb-c or 3,2 to 3.0 converter or an enclosure, would that still kill the usb 3.0 port by trying to overdraw power?

also is it bad to use 3 external HDs + the SSD with m.2 enclosure together on a laptop? i have a powered hub for the HDs and would only use the usb 3.0 port of the laptop directly use the SSD+m.2 enclosure. is this good practice?

is this bad, especially with the addition of SSD+enclosure? should i buy external HD with less power consumption to be safe? or does it not matter?
