I play with a friend who has played for decades while I have barely played for a year. The fun is that like regular golf where most of the distance is a drive amd walking, and the putting is the only real pressure part. I trimmed down to three discs because I'm still not very consconsistent.

But we play for the exercise so it definitely falls in the dull umbrella. There is also a league where they do practice a lot and make some amazing shots where the exact disc does matter.

Its definitely a game for dullards but I don't know that I'd call the game dull. You're really only playing against yourself so its as challenging as you take it to be. The discs are just as varied as clubs in ball golf, maybe even more importantly so. But you can also just as easily play a full round with 3 disks. And its mostly walking around enjoying some time outside. Often waiting in queue for your turn to throw. Very nice, very dull.

While you can play with 1 disc, 3 is the practical minimum for a regular player - driver, mid-range, putter.

I typically play with a dozen, each one has different flight characteristics that's useful for different baskets/conditions.

We'd often get a 12 pack of ice cold beer and just carry it with us - no cooler - just drink them before they got warm.

A few years back the city I live in built a disc golf course through the little forest park next to our house.

I find disc golf really very dull, nothing for me, and thought its a waste of money they built this. Turns out there's someone playing pretty much every day, and its different people too, not just the same dude. I still think its boring but there seem to be enough people to enjoy it, so whatever.

Man I haven't played in years. I should get back out there.

I've seen people with the huge pack full of discs, meanwhile I'm carrying 3 in my little sling.

Nice. I picked it up last year as a way to get outside, get some exercise and some low-cost entertainment since there are a bunch of courses around where I live and I don't have to pay every time I want to play. Over that time I've gone from awful to mediocre, which I'm pleased with lol. But it gets me moving and away from a screen for a few hours, so I'll call it a win.

I had a buddy do a lunch talk at work on disc golf.

It seemed ridiculous.

The numbers and how it meant the disc would fly, etc.

I played once, the group I was with helped me with a loaner set of discs, and told me the numbers and what they meant.

I sucked, bad, but by the end of it I was deliberately selecting my disc based on the hole we were at and the terrain and how I threw.

Fascinatingly dull.

Plus the chance to collect all the discs, omg. I had to not get into it.
