Lmao at this rate eat the entire establishment, a billionaire is never your fucking friend. America is so fucked.

[-] return2ozma@lemmy.world 1 points 2 minutes ago

We have Steyer the billionaire with progressive policies (we'll see if he's all talk) vs Becerra the establishment corporate Dem that has had nearly every major corporation in California donating the maximum amount to his campaign. Oof

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I don’t like that steyer is my candidate of choice but I’m still voting for him.

I also think that billionaires are the problem. You could fund so many people/things and still have $900,000,000.

But people need to see that a progressive agenda gets votes.

Dudes net worth is 2.4 billion...

The San Francisco resident has spent over $320 million in federal elections since 2010?plus another $340 million on his own presidential campaign in 2020.

https://www.forbes.com/profile/thomas-steyer/

He just realized it's better to cut out the middle man these days and run yourself than buy a politician.

If he was even a halfway decent human being he'd have given away about 2 billion dollars by now and still had more money than he could spend in his lifetime.

The only reason someone this selfish would run for government is to personally enrich themselves and amass power. If he wanted to really help people he'd just spend all his time giving his money away.

Don't be fooled by the Dem establishment candidate...

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

The entire point of Cali's primary system is to prevent progressives from getting thru by scaring everyone to settle for "electable" to block Republicans...

That being said, I honestly don't know who is the best bet over there, just that Steyer (and any other billionaire) will absolutely never ever under any conditions be on the side of anyone except the oligarchs.

Because if they were, they wouldn't be billionaires it's the easiest fucking thing in the world to not be a billionaire. But every day they decide to allow thousand of easily preventable deaths for so little money it honestly wouldn't show up as a rounding error for them.

Anyone who isn't a complete and total piece of shit would have hemorrhaged money immediately, the fact that anyone has had control over a billion dollars for more than 24 hours mean they are a completely irredeemable person.

Anything they do, is solely a PR move and viewed as a cost of bonus if not an outright grift.

Politicians are only as useful as their policies, which other candidate has better policies?

[-] TallonMetroid@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Becerra is also former AG, ie a cop.

[-] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 hours ago

He’s the only one with a progressive platform!

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Nothing he does as Governor would equal spending 1.4 billion on charity...

And he'd still have a billion dollars.

Need I remind you that platforms are non binding?

How about how Super Pacs have been destroying our nation?

https://factually.co/fact-checks/politics/tom-steyer-political-donations-organizations-funded-amounts-559f47

Steyer is literally one of the largest individual donors...

He is everything wrong with our political system and giving him the keys because he promises to be a good boy is ridiculous when he is constantly not a good boy and keeps hoarding all the fucking wealth.

If he was serious about not hoarding wealth, why is he still actively doing it?!

[-] BloodMuffin@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

i totally agree. this guy is sus

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 hour ago

Thomas Fahr Steyer is an American billionaire businessman, philanthropist, environmental advocate, and Democratic political activist. He founded the San Francisco hedge fund Farallon Capital in 1986, and was its co-senior managing partner until leaving the firm in 2012...

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 hours ago

I don't think the only reason someone massively rich would run is for more money. I think a lot just do it for their oversized egos.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 11 points 3 hours ago

Seems like the governors race in California is going like shit

[-] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Yeah that's why there's so much arguing. There's no good candidates.

The powerful are very good at weeding them out for higher offices.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Steyer seems like the best option.

[-] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 hour ago

I agree but I don't love it.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Yeah. Katie Porters downfall has been monumental. I'm embarrassed to say I shared a stage with her as a fundraiser for other candidates

[-] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 hour ago

Oh interesting. I would vote for her too but she has her issues and has fallen off in the polls. So if you don't want a chevron-owned candidate it's basically Steyer or bust.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Oh I wouldn't vote for her at this point. She's been a bit of a disaster for a couple years now.

Like you, I'd vote for Steyer. They're genuinely the best option and the only progressive in the race.

[-] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 1 points 25 minutes ago

There are no progressive billionaires. There are no ethical billionaires. Every billionaire is an enemy of humanity.

Tom Steyer is worth $2.6 billion. He should be food, not a governor.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 1 points 22 minutes ago

Sure. And someone is going to be the next Governor of California.

If you would prefer to eat Steyer, who do you suggest people then instead vote for?

[-] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 1 points 19 minutes ago

Porter is — or was — the only candidate who is not completely deplorable.

[-] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 hour ago

What turned you against her?

[-] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 1 points 24 minutes ago

She was mean to people a couple times on camera and has the audacity to have not been born a man.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 1 points 26 minutes ago

One thing was not showing up for other progressives. She seemed to think of the label as a pejorative and I think that cut against her. I think she should have tried to be more squad/ squad adjacent and she really didn't show up for other members of the squad in her votes or with her voice. That being said I see her defeat in the Senate race as a pure rat-fucking on the part of the DNC, so its a mixed bag. Honestly, I guess I realized what it was that I was often more-so rooting against Porters opponent than I was actually rooting for Porter. But thats also good instinct on her part, picking good fights.

Like I think she could have beat Schiff if she would have tried to be more of a stand-out-progressive in her time in congress. Then she just kind-of continously kept falling short and having melt-down after melt-down, and it was like 'aight your time is up'.

[-] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 1 points 1 hour ago

Seems like billionaire Tom Steyer learned that spending assloads of money in the Democratic primary -- but doing precious little meeting constituents -- doesn't make the voters love you.

I got so tired of the sheer volume of physical junk mail from Steyer. It's like he was waging a war against trees.

So now he's whoring for a smaller more winnable seat.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 1 points 32 minutes ago

I was down in SDO a bit ago and all I saw were Steyer ads. Like wall to wall. One Bacera ad.
