I got an iPhone SE3 and I hate it. It's too big, it's almost like a mini tablet. I was about to quit iPhone for good but remembered the OG is still "technically" usable. How's the experience? And do you think it'll last for a few more years, at least?

You must have toddler hands 🤣 in what world is that phone big lol I think the regular phones from this year are way to small already but I'd say no don't do it. Just try to get used to the size cause why would someone downgrade that hard, you'd possibly only use it like a year longer if it even works, just adapt to the phone you have now.

Well if you quit Apple phones then you have no other options as the SE line is the smallest in the market.

The OGSE is perfectly usable in 2023, yes. It’ll likely still be usable until 2025 which is when you can expect a lot of apps to move away from it.

I’m using my SE 2020 rn. Still like it a lot aside from the meh camera.

Why not use the iPhone 4S by your logic?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Just being mr. literal here but I tried using my iPhone 4s 1.5 years ago when they discontinued the 3g towers, and AT&T almost canceled my account over it. This is in USA. May not be the same result in all countries

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Yes it is. It still gets app and security updates on a recent iOS version. With a new battery it can definitely last a couple more years from now.

I have an OG SE as my main phone and I'm still very happy with it, no interest in getting a newer phone. It's also the last iPhone with headphone jack.

I have both and the 13 Mini. The SE3 and 13 Mini (although smaller and lighter than the SE3) are too big and heavy for a comfortable one-handed use. So, I am still daily driving my trusty OGSE. The OGSE still functions perfectly for me. It runs all the apps I need and use constantly flawlessly. The only annoying thing about it is that some websites and apps don’t load and function properly because they are being designed and optimized for the flip-flop sized iPhones. I actually find this to be true for the SE3 and 13 Mini as well.

Se 3 as a mini tablet ? Damn, I can’t imagine you using a pro max lmao

Here’s a review, and read the comments there.

I bought the IPhone SE2 but went back to OGSE due to the size. I wish the OGSE had a tad better camera in low light and the unoptimized webbrowsing can be annoying from time to time but it gets the job done

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

The screen sizes are all the same, I just googled it, they all have the same screen sizes, the se 1, 2, & 3 are all the same screen size. Where are people getting the idea that they’re not?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

The se 1 was around the 4s size iirc. The se 2 and 3 are iPhone 7 size, much “larger”.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Original SE is the body of the 5/5S just with the 6S performance.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

It’s better to try to get used to. No reason to downgrade that hard

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yes, I use it now. Some new apps like chat gpt don’t work for it. But you can make web apps that have Home Screen icons. Seconding battery replacement.

I feel like a lot of apps also still update even though it’s an outdated iOS

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

You can access ChatGPT via Safari on the OGSE.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

i use one daily and it works perfectly, any apps work (typing this through the reddit app on one right now) nothing takes too long to load, battery drains quickly sometimes but it’s fine if it’s in low power mode; i’d recommend it to anyone for the size and the price (not to mention the headphone jack)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Really, sounds like you need a cheap old iPhone 5 or older.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

But app support will be questionable. And i dont think battery life will be good even if you change the battery.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Mine stills works fine. Battery life lasts until the night. A bit slow from time to time but still good enough for me

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

That’s a statement I never thought I’d read. iPhone SE3, a tablet in your hand 😂

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

There’s a lot of talk about how the Mini just about matches the first SE for size but no one ever mentions the actual screen size. I totally get how people are happy with that tiny little four inch screen. Last time I had an OGSE it was fine on its last iOS and the only quibble I had was the poor battery life but ya just charge it when it needs it. I guess the day will come when ya can’t get the latest version of an important app but it wasn’t like that for me last time I used it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

if you use it for 1 week you will get used to the size; sincerely someone who upgraded to a 5 to a 6 and got used to it after a week

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

The only downside is the antenna. Sometimes you’ll get poor data signal

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Yup I have an OGSE. Still works great without much slowdown and good battery life. Downgraded from my iPhone 14 Pro.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Hum, dude, I just googled the screen sizes for iPhone SE 1 & 3 and they’re both the same, so it won’t change anything if the se 3 is too big.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

SE 1 is 4" SE 2 & 3 are 4.7"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Yep still viable, was using it as my daily recently before switching to a 13 Mini.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It’s usable. Provided you have a 128 GB OG SE.

64 GB of storage is horrendous in 2023. People will say that you don’t need that much storage but these folks are all foolish. A simple app like Gmail is like 455 MB big now. Twitter is like 300 MB or something. Now if you have all essential apps and maybe one or two games installed, you’re almost at 35-40 GB used already.

With the 128 GB, you don’t have to worry about the storage too much for daily apps. Next will be the battery life. If the battery was recently replaced, you’re good.

Also being on the latest iOS version will guarantee you that you will have the most recent apps that can still be installed today.

Eh? I survived with a 16gb OGSE in 2022 as my daily driver. Everything is steamed now so nothing is required to be on your device other than apps. I used that OGSE for everything, it was a proper smartphone, lol.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I'm still with a 16gb OGSE 😊 I definitely wouldn't recommend it, for instance I can't update my phone without using my PC to do the update. But other than that I'm very happy with it. I was gonna upgrade to a new phone this year or the next, but it's hard to justify when it still does everything i need it to.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I have one (32GB) , but I use it really only for travelling so it's not my daily driver. My daily phone is a Moto One Android so I don't really load the iPhone up with programs and such. The main stuff are travel related ones for airline and train tickets and such, besides music.

I got this one as a refurb so the battery says it's in top shape, but my only real gripes are that when using walking directions that google maps for some reason like to take up more of the little space there is, but doesn't when it's for driving directions and that google maps devours the battery life.

Yes, the screen is small, but for the odd time I need to look something up, it's fine plus also pocketable and still has the headphone jack.

Itunes is still lightyears for music compared to anything Android has, let alone when you're in the car.

I'm using this phone until it's run into the grave or breaks apart, but understand that I'm probably an outlier here.

Get an iphone mini

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Using it now. It’s my only device and internet access. I bought it a couple of years back for £37 off eBay.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Considering how the iPhone 5s got a security update for iOS 12 in January 2023, you’ll be good for a while on iOS 15.

They are still very popular amongst service and maintenance contractors for various reasons.
