I would be sad to see Github go. It has two major advantages for any Microsoft hater:

  • If you use only the basic Git features to host your open-source projects, it's totally free and Microsoft collects essentially zero monetizable data on you.

  • It's totally trivial to abuse it to serve up files - including enormous ones. I use it as my primary DEB and RPM repos, and to share photos and videos online, since it's CORS-compliant.

In other words, you get really useful features for free, you abuse Microsoft's resources and they get nothing in return. What's not to love eh?
