I washed my dishes! Life has been grim lately. They had stacked up. Kitchen is clean now. And maybe I feel a bit better.

[-] navigator@piefed.zip 20 points 1 week ago

Making music. I’ve started working on a new EP, probably around 5 songs, that I plan to release within 3 months.

Made the mistake of trying Deadlock. It's invite only right now but there are communities that will let you friend someone for an invite. Anyway I figured it was good since it's Valve. And uh unfortunately I was right. I haven't slept properly in a week

[-] anon6789@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Well, it's bed time here, but in the morning I'm going on a road trip to get another preventative rabies shot. I didn't build up enough antibodies from the 3 shots last fall to work with raccoons and foxes and such, so I'm giving it another try.

It's a 5-6 hour round trip, but another wildlife center is running a discount program, so it saves me $500 or so, even with gas taken into account.

That's a fantastic discount, my goodness. I hope this time is the one that lets you work with them!

[-] anon6789@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

It is! The shots are normally around 600 to 800 each, and you need 3, typically.

The clinic out there does a spring and fall event so new volunteers and anyone needing a booster can come all on the same days. One vial of vaccine holds enough to do 10 people, so instead of giving one shot and tossing the rest as would happen if we all got shots randomly, they schedule us to all come on the same days, and pass the savings on to us, as most of us aren't paid to do this work.

I tested positive for antibodies, but not high enough to safely work with rabies vector animals, so I'm due for a booster. I believe we need to get a titer every 2 years to show we still have proper antibody levels to keep working with them.

So it's a bit of a hassle, but we have so many cute critters that I can't work with without doing it!

Meatball the groundhog

A tiny baby fox they brought back to life after it passed. It's big now, and still just as adorable!

They're too adorable! That's so cool.

I'm no hypocrite, I'll chime in. I woke up at 1 am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep because my body hates me apparently. The day was pretty good other than that though, I made a run to the dump that I'd been meaning to do for months, got my hair dyed, and had lunch at a local cafe (sandwich with a yuba patty, sesame slaw, and peanut sauce. It was so good). Now I'm just chilling, I got cider and I'm listening to records (Yesterwynde by Nightwish right now). I'm gonna sleep well tonight I think!

Norway's constitutional day today, so started the off at 8 with canon shots from the castle where the royal families resided in the 11-1200's followed by a speech from the mayor, then a parade through the city for the annual retelling of some of the towns heroes and legends from throughout history, and then hotdogs and ice cream and coffee in the sun before going home for breakfast and cake, and then the children's parade through the streets from home just before 13. Now it's gaming time while I listen to the party of the celebrating russ next door in the background.

I've been recovering from bottom surgery, still on my first week of being home from the hospital. Moving around has been hard, so I spent today watching TV (Dropout's GameChanger and Invincible S4), speaking to friends online or who visit, and doing some hand sewing. Well, plus my surgery maintenance.

[-] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 4 points 1 week ago

Congratulations! I recommend Baldur's Gate Three and Potionomics for good recovery games.

Rolled down 80km of Italian alps today on the Alpe-Adria cycling route. Probably the nicest part of the route. Between Villach and Carnia including some 50+ km of the most beautiful rail to trail I've been on. With good weather as well. Honestly amazing day.

Putter around in the garden while the pups and the hens frolic in the yard, then off to work this afternoon. Work is a doggie daycare/boarding/training facility and it’s a rather slow weekend, so basically it’ll be some cleaning but mostly 8hrs of chilling with a pack of dogs what’s going to be a lovely spring afternoon. I have no complaints.

[-] KaRunChiy@fedia.io 8 points 1 week ago

Severe thunderstorm rolled through town earlier, took the opportunity to drive around while everyone was pulled off to the sides of the road.

Couldn't see 5 feet in front of me and was constantly pelted by hail. Was pretty fun.

I'm going to start a new homebrew experiment making watermelon cucumber hard seltzer with lemon zest and a splash of apple juice. It probably needs sweetener after the sugars have become alcohol to bring back the watermelon flavour and maybe some mineral salt to give it seltzer character.

I went to six flags with my significant other today, we had a blast! I don't think I'd been on a roller coaster in nearly a decade so it was really fun to be back in a theme park (despite the food prices, which were ludicrous).

[-] ace_garp@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Hot sweaty, course 2 of 3 about entering a structure. A good day all in all.

I'll probably wash my truck and then go buy some baseboard for work tomorrow. Might go to my camp spot to sit and cook by a fire in the evening.

Update: Truck washed (washed my bike too), baseboards bought, replaced the bedding for my gerbil and now eating some yoghurt before heading out into the woods to muddy my clean bike.

[-] kindenough@kbin.earth 6 points 1 week ago

It's not too many pancakes, but a bit similar I am making too many Rotis today. There are many types of (stuffed) flatbread, today dahlpuri roti. I am making a bunch for the freezer as well.

Takes quite a bit of work, making the stuffing and all, so I already made the Doks Masala (Surinam style duck curry) and Madame Jeanette pepper sauce late last night to go with the Roti.

Also traditional to go with roti and doks masala is boiled eggs, patato masala and long beans. Scoop that stuff up with the roti, no fork or spoon needed, bare hands. I am looking forward serving this tonight.

Hanging out with my goblin cat and trying to enjoy my time off without letting the anxiety of being unemployed set in.

[-] dunz@feddit.nu 6 points 1 week ago

Just finished a LAN party. I'm the chairman of the nonprofit that arranges it. Everything went smooth. So smooth I had bad anxiety the day before we started lol. The aula we rented is cleaned, and the extra chairs and tables we rented have been picked up.

Before the pandemic we used to have close to a 1000 guests. But unfortunately big LAN partys are dying, so this year we were only around 70.

I think we'll keep a smaller size, but aiming for a bit more than 100 next year. Because at this size, it's still really fun without all the extra stress and workload that comes from arranging a really big party

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'll continue sorting LEGO bricks. I'm almost done with Light Bluish Gray, of which I currently have about a cubic meter (probably even more) in the living room. I've got half of that again already sorted in storage.

Update: just finished the last box and put it in the car. Two weeks of sorting Light Bluish Gray are finally over!

Chilling after a long day of programming. Piano music helps to destress from the work.

[-] Mofy@piefed.social 6 points 1 week ago

Working on the customisation of my homebrew arcade machine. Solved a lot of problems this weekend and now it is the fun part. After the game overlays are set, I get to try and get the light guns mapped (without conflicts with the spinners hopefully)

[-] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Worked 12 hours. About to do it again, then again

[-] harcesz@szmer.info 6 points 1 week ago

Breakfast time. Than gotta go to the social centre to prep it for its 12birthday.

I just finished adding a feature to https://port87.com/ that lets you turn message authentication requirements completely off for a label.

I did this specifically because all of my email accounts will reject email from my home server’s disk monitoring software because it’s not set up to send email “correctly” (no DKIM or SPF, no MX record on its return path).

I figured since I made my own email service, and you can have setting per address (each label has its own address), it would be easy to add this feature. It was not that easy. One of the plugins in the server I use (Haraka) would reject email if it failed its check. I contributed a PR to Haraka to make the failure on that check optional. Yay open source!

[-] KurtVonnegut@mander.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

That's a pretty cool concept.

[-] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Noup, not really. Hitting the gym after breakfast, though gotta ad in arms and abs today as i cut yesterdays session shorter, then the grocery store for the weekly trip, later helping my wife package up he bicycle for a trip and in the evening finishing the day off with playing some Diablo 4 in the PC.

Though i think it's going to be kinda decent day actually.

[-] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

I’m gonna try and make a dent in some songs that I’ve been working on. For one I’ve got the rhythm tracks all done, just need to see what else I need to add, like synth layers, background fx…it’s an instrumental, so no need to worry about vocals on this one. The other one I’ve only gotten about a third of the guitars done, and I really need to write drum and bass parts before I go any further with it. The lyrics are almost done, but I want to focus on the rhythm section first.

I’ll go through creative cycles where I’ll write/record every day, and then find myself going for weeks struggling to find the motivation. But I took some time off work specifically so I could focus my energy on music. So that’s what I’m gonna do.

[-] Asafum@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Laundry, playing a few games and funny enough making too many pancakes! Well, just enough pancakes really, but any amount of pancakes at 10:30pm is probably too many Lol The craving struck so pancakes I must make!

[-] TheMinister@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Im working on a music video for some pop star I’ve never heard of and can’t remember the name of. But they have a pretty massive actress involved so its big as far as music videos go. Long ass day though and it’s hotter’n’hell out

[-] STUNT_GRANNY@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Well, this morning, I'm nursing a hangover, and learning an important lesson about making bulk cocktails: water them down, because there's no need for ice if you keep bulk cocktails refrigerated. Also, the pumpkin spice espresso martini recipe I'd made several months ago came out annoyingly viscous.

But it was delicious otherwise, and I'd ended up drinking an entire bottle on my own last night. Luckily it was only ~50 proof.

Heading out to a building supply store, Kent, to buy a closure for the storm door.

Having wings and diced oven roasted sweet potatoes for lunch. Rice crispy squares for dessert.

Maybe changing my sister over to all-seasons this afternoon.

[-] Quilotoa@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

Just got back from our camp where I'm doing renovations. It's only accessible by boat so all supplies have to be loaded in the trailer, brought to the boat, loaded in the boat, brought to the camp, then unloaded onto the dock. Makes for slow going, but the peace and beauty out there make up for it. Today, I'm going to church, picking up groceries for the week, then heading back to camp.

I got a few chores to do, then I'm going to sit down and do an experiment: I'm going to convert a guitar I just got got from a steel string guitar to a nylon string guitar.

It's an a 3/4 size, all mahogany acoustic, and it sounds good, with good definition in the mid range, and nicely balanced highs and lows, it's just a bit harsh for my ears. I already have a beautiful 3/4 size that I like, so I think this conversion could mellow out the tone of this new guitar, and give me a sound I don't already have.

I'm also going to change the nut, saddle, and pins from cheap plastic to bone. That should help, too.

A deep sleep.

[-] Monster96@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

My mom, whom I haven't seen in almost a month, is staying with me for a few days. So, a majority of my day was driving her around and taking her shopping. But, we had a nice lunch, watched The Dark Knight, and she cooked me one of my favourite meals. It was nice to get away from work for a bit and see the sun for once so I had a good day.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Today I:

Helped My friends make characters for Beam Saber, a tabletop roleplaying game about giant mechs and the personal drama of those who pilot them,

Visited the Rat Market in Fallen London and realised I could get a Reported Location of a One-time Prince of Hell if I spent most of My actions today and tomorrow arguing with spiders, which I am currently doing,

Went grocery shopping and picked up some vegan meatballs to try,

Watched some reviews of Subnautica 2 and tried to decide whether to get it in early access this week (I am still undecided),

Started season 4 of Phineas and Ferb,

Looked at queer Sonic memes,

Failed to solve a Portal Reloaded time travel puzzle,

Researched a little history of colonisation in Australia,

And I plan to hatch a creature from a Whitsun egg in Fallen London.
