Al Qaeda and ISIS influence is exactly what the "mistreatment" of Muslims in Xinjiang is/was targeting, but racist Redditors don't actually care enough about the Uyghurs when there is a genuine threat against civilians I guess
I have been meaning to make a post asking about Uyghurs. But honestly been pretty nervous about it. Would you be more willing to go into detail on this?
Basically the CIA helped flood the region with Salafist texts and ideology in the leadup to fomenting the soviet afghan war, which was actually just the soviets supporting the social democrat elected government of Afghanistan at the time which the CIA helped to overthrow. This reactionary propaganda did not contain itself in the borders of Afghanistan but spilled over into neighboring regions such as western China. Fast forward a couple decades and those same proto-ISIS aligned groups go on to commit a series of bombings and attacks in west china resulting in a state crackdown and reeducation effor. Preserving the Uyghur culture while stamping out the Salafist influences imported from the west.
That's the bare bones of it.
Thank you for the explanation!
There was terrorism committed by Muslim extremists supported by the US. China's policy has been to educate and integrate uyghurs into Chinese society.
This.
Exactly
What if Osama Bin Laden had two 20" wheels, a 750w mid-drive motor, and a rear rack weight capacity of 100kg? He'd be one hell of a cargo bike at a $3000 price point.

"What if the CIA's check hadn't bounced?"
the origins of Al Qaeda and Taliban involve Chinese support and backing alongside US support and backing, as the mujahideen were used as proxies to fight against the Soviets (stupid). China receiving blowback instead of the US is conceivable enough and would also be them having to confront a demon of their history, China would "deserve" it in the same way that the US 'deserved" 9/11, as blowback for the fucked up actions of their government - in that they would both be the consequences of their collective actions coming back to roost.
Maybe don't support reactionary extremists to own the soviets, but what do i know?
They did have blowback, in Xinjiang. Lots of terrorism and death, ironically the terrorism was sponsored by their former "allies" in the USA. The ETIM terrorists are still out in Syria and have vowed to return and inspire fundamentalist religous counter revolution.
They did have blowback, in Xinjiang.
Yeah I was gonna say the whole situation in Xinjiang is also the fault of the CIA flooding the region with Salafist propaganda because reactionary agitprop does not respect boarders.
If he had two wheels he would have been a bike.
Western accusations against china didn't even start until 2017. This guy wasn't even alive to see them.
ETIM pissed they didn't think of this
What if Osama had eaten pancakes for breakfast? Huh? Checkmate tankies.
Slop.
