China receiving blowback instead of the US is conceivable enough and would also be them having to confront a demon of their history, China would "deserve" it in the same way that the US 'deserved" 9/11, as blowback for the fucked up actions of their government - in that they would both be the consequences of their collective actions coming back to roost.
