It’s funnier when you figure it out for yourself. Then you can comment “Took me longer that I’d like to admit,” or some other shit like that.

[-] Sxan@piefed.zip 8 points 3 weeks ago

Related to Alot, I believe.

I didn't say "captain says"

A lert is similar to an alot

*oatmeal reference

Edit: whoops 😅

Pretty sure the alot was Hyperbole and a Half wasn't it? The Oatmeal is pretty good too.

You’re right!

I spent all of high school arguing with my English teachers about whether or not it is spelled 'a lot' or 'alot'. I spelled out 'alot' so often in my assignments and argued about it that at one point, even the teachers began to question whether or not it was spelled that way. It was easier to confuse these things pre-internet and pre-google .... plus I had a lot of gullible (but nice) teachers.

Captain: Red Alert!

Riker: Oh was it a good book, Captain?

[-] lauha@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Riker: Ah, fine game from late 20th century. What does it have to do with the situation?

[-] bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Red Dwarf had a good take on this:

"Blue alert!" Light starts flashing.

Followed by

  • "Advance to red alert!"
  • "Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb."

When it gets to the OOF ALERT you know the ships in trouble

So, a lert is readable, and yell'able. &, I don't think lerts get blown in Star Trek. At least I don't recall a "blew a lert". We'll figure out wtf is a lert yet.

This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.
