Anybody ever entered a random draw and just kinda felt like they were going to win? I go to gun shows and usually just look, as I'm generally fairly satisfied with my coverage of firearms to defend me and my family from right wing psychos and the coming shit show. But there was a raffle for a .50 barrett. And I bought a few tickets. And for some reason, I feel like it's already mine. Like I feel like I'm going to win it. I've only gotten this feeling once before, and I did wind up winning the $1000. Anybody else have that happen? I hate going to these things and trying to play nice with these people, but if they're armed, I need to be as well. I dunno, I just feel like it's already mine and just need to wait for confirmation.

If you win I'd sell it. .50 BMG is like $3.50 a round. That's way too spicy for me. They're fun to shoot though. I've shot an M2 a few times and it's an experience.

Yea but you're shooting like 5 rounds and then putting it aside cause you're shoulder feels like you fought Mike Tyson.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I'd bet. The M2 is on a tripod so that eats all the recoil.

I've shot the Barrett and even with it having a recoil spring, it's honestly not fun to shoot for more than a few rounds. I don't even want to talk about the single round I shot from a bolt action 50bmg...

Even more reason to not bother with bolt-action for .50 BMG: semi-automatic rifles tend to have safety features to redirect energy away from the shooter and relieve pressure in the event of a catastrophic failure.

Yeah I shot the M2 a few times. Once in basic and a few times in Iraq. Yeah, selling it would be a good pay day, but it also comes with 100 rds. If I won, I'd probably at least go through those before selling it.

But the point of the post was that feeling of winning before ya do lol. Still, happy to talk guns if ya want though.

I've never had the feeling like I'd win anything. My dad has though. He's always known he was gonna win the lottery and he won $30k on a scratcher. I asked him how much he was up over all the tickets he's ever played. He told me he's about even, 🤣.

Pretty much the same with the M2. Once in basic and a few times in Iraq, training only thankfully. I'm not really a gun guy. I do own a decent BCM AR15 and a CZ P-10C 9mm. That's about it. Actually I do need to get out to a range. It's been too long.

Yeah I'd definitely have some fun with those 100 rounds. Invite some friends over and blow up some watermelon or something.

Yeah I'm not a gambler. We have a casino in town but I've only been there a few times, never spent more than $20. Never walked away with anything, either. I see it as a cost of entertainment, not an opportunity. Most times I've been there was for a comedy show and I was waiting for it to start.

Yeah, training only and a few for fun. I've done range medical a few times and after they were done, let us blow through some rounds.

I've got a .45 pistol, a semi auto Remington 12 ga, and a .308 AR. The goal is coverage. I looked at a tommy gun today but couldn't pull the trigger on it (har har). A mid range is the last gap in my coverage, but a .45 hi-point is like $350, while the tommy gun is $1000, longer and heavier, without mounting points. And if you buy one without the drum magazine, do you really have one at all? But that mag is almost the price of the hi-point as a whole. And the damn thing was as big as my AR.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Ha, you're a caliber up on me. I was looking at getting a 12 ga, specifically AR-12s, but I talked myself out of it and I think I'm fine with what I have. If I'm in a situation where 5.56 isn't enough, I was already on borrowed time. All my money goes into camera gear now, another hobby as expensive as guns.

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I hear that. I dunno that I'd do an AR-12. I've never had experience with em but I'd be skeptical of the platform being capable of handling that much pressure reliably.

I didn't invest in cameras because I live in a quiet neighborhood in an otherwise questionable city. I just don't feel that's necessary where I live. But everyone's conditions are different. I may have to in the future, but currently I don't see it being high on the list.

I also get the sentiment of being on borrowed time if it's escalated beyond 5.56. But my thing is, if I have to go down, I could certainly make it harder to take the next guy down. At that point, I'm doing my part. All I need to do is make sure they have less people to put toward storming the next guys house. If we all did that, the fascists would run out rather quickly.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

AR-12 is kinda fun. A buddy has a cheapo and I've ran a few mags through it. More of a gimmick IMO. No clue on the reliability, but it's fun.

I mean a camera like a photo camera lol. I'm not that paranoid. Crime is really low here other than the meth heads and domestic violence.

I'm betting things will fall apart for everyone well before there are fascists outside my door. I'm more worried about the looters and the opportunistic ne'er-do-wells local to the area. Luckily I have a plan and property away from most people. It's not ideal, but it's better than being in a big city if SHTF. It's not something I think will happen, but better something than nothing.

Naa the AR 12g shottys are reliable now. (Don't buy a cheap Turkish one). I have a VR82 which is the 20g version of the vr80 which is 12g. They(RIA) made the 20g vr82 after a lot of feedback from the 3 gun community. Which is what I use mine for. It's stupid light and runs just about anything I put into it. It also has the kick of a spicy 556 at best.

As for the fascist thing...you don't even need to worry about pulling the trigger. A lot of those types aren't willing to die for a paycheck. They're expecting people to not be armed.

[-] eletes@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

I've won a couple random draws that I think it's inflated my expectations. Been entering raffles for overlanding vehicles lately thinking I'd win. Need to stop before it becomes an addiction. Though the long period of waiting is better than instantaneous gambling

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Well it's also for a good cause, they're raising money for underprivileged kids lunches. It's a shame that's even a thing but since it is...

[-] eletes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Oof yeah that one shouldn't exist. The one I do is for genetic blindness prevention research

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

my wife entered an Adidas raffle at a Sounders FC event, she won a signed jersey and $1000 gift card for the Adidas site.

that's about as close to winning I ever got but I don't enter these things because I hate giving up my info

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 1 points 1 month ago

meh. ive never won anything, and im not about to start.

you couldnt pay me to attend one one of those events. i dont enjoy the celebration of devices designed to kill human beings, i dont care how much you want to dress it up as security or sport. i have a lot of friends into that nonsense.

gross

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

If my enemies are going to use tools, I'd be stupid not to.

[-] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com -5 points 1 month ago

hey, whatever you need to tell yourself. you do you

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I don't understand this mentality. "Guess I'll just die then". Are you saying you wouldn't try to fight back if/when they come for you? I saw plenty of rainbow stuff there today too, if that's your hesitance. Rainbow brass knuckles, knives, foregrips and barrels etc. it's not like I want to fight, but if I have to, I'm gonna make it as hard as possible for whoever makes me.

[-] SupraMario@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

An armed minority is harder to oppress.

All my trans homies are strapped.

Literal fascist in power and we still have people on the left saying "ban guns"...the amount of nativity it takes to get to that level boggles my mind.

To build on this: establishment Democrats don't really care about minorities beyond lip-service. If they really gave a shit about vulnerable groups then they wouldn't fight said groups' ability to defend themselves.

And before anyone opens their mouths, no I'm not supporting conservatives here. You're best off supporting the progressive arm of the Democrats overall, though they also put way too much emphasis on gun control

Dems could sweep elections if they would drop gun control. It's a complete waste of political capital continuing it. They lose so many single issue voters because of it.

yep...id rather die than raise a human killing device to someone.

i have my morals, you got yours.. i guess.

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

This is how fascists win. And I would argue that you don't have morals if you're not willing to fight for the innocent. Caribbean monk seals went extinct because they had no sense to flee, and would just watch people wander up and slaughter them. That's simply stupidity, not morality.

No never happened to me, you couldn’t get me to visit a gun or weapons related event for a million euros.
