These corporations are so out of touch. They'll spend 10 million on testing groups to still not do simple things people are asking for which you can figure out in about an hour by reading the Internet.

It isn't even just Microslop, they're all absolutely clueless.

Something about being hard to understand something when the paycheck depends on not understanding it.

Can we get a search that just looks at local machine, not fucking web results?

[-] bhamlin@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Hold up, hold up. They're finally looking at their backlog. This one is from 2003. They'll get around to your issue as soon as they catch up.

[-] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Did they remove that? From what I remember there were 3 options along the top and one was local files.

People are leaving !

Quick, remove ads and wait 6 months before you re-enable them!

This is exactly what they’re doing. Buy some goodwill. Continue turning up the temperature in a few months. They think they can boil the frog eventually.

Way back when, I loved Windows XP. I was always dorking around with it, seeing what I could do to personalize and customize it. I had that mindset until Windows 11. I just couldn't anymore.

So I finally tried Linux. It turns out, this is exactly what I wanted back in the XP days. I just never had the need to try it. Now that Microslop has forced my hand, I've experienced the environment outside of windows. As such, I really don't see what they could possibly do to bring me back.

Not having any alternative for specific professional software categories is pretty fucked up tbh.

People pushing Linux always forget this one major issue.

I'm definitely going to join the Linux master race when I have time. I only get about 3 hours a month on my laptop at the minute and Windows is just scary now.

I cant use the Office package because you need a license, my wife logged in with hers because she gets it as part of something else bundled with Netflix or some shit, but that locked me out of my emails somehow, and I cant get the excel file I saved because apparently it saved on her cloud account which for some reason is inaccessible.

Just fuck it.

I swapped over when Windows 10 went EOL, haven’t looked back since.

The vast majority of what I do on my PC is browsing, media consumption or gaming. All three work just as well (if not better) for me.

LibreOffice does take some getting used to as the shortcuts and options are different to Excel - but it supports every function I’ve come across so far.

Give it a try, you can use a Live ISO to launch the OS from a flash drive to give it a try before committing to an install - both Linux Mint and Pop OS are meant to be great introductions for regular users. I wanted to predominantly play games so I went with Bazzite initially before switching to CachyOS.

Don’t stress too much about what the various distributions are, just think of it as a pre-set selection at a restaurant.

I don't trust them to not re-enable it. uninstalling windows instead ensures they won't reenable it..

Too little, too late

Whoa, I member Vista introducing widgets, no idea they evolved into spam, but I mean ofc they did.

[-] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

Its like when you get a bowl of fruit but then forget about it. When you come across it 6 months later its just goo and flies.

[-] doc@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago

What utility do widgets have, anyway? I've only ever viewed them as an OS native yahoo-style front page. Among the first things I turn off on any Wimdows machine I use.

It must somehow make MS a bunch of money for it to get so much of their attention.

[-] prasadCode58@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

There's not even any use of the widget panel, like that phone link widget is now integrated in the start menu. And if I need any other 3rd party widget to use in the panel, then those widgets are paid. ( ⚈̥̥̥̥̥́⌢⚈̥̥̥̥̥̀)

[-] Tonava@sopuli.xyz 2 points 13 hours ago

Worse, the panel is actively bothersome. If you are left handed and use touch screen, the damn panel will constantly and randomly jump out since it's located in the left corner. And of course you can't disable or move it. That alone would have been enough for me to throw 11 into the trash where it belongs
