If we lose the only meaningful non-Chromium web browser user base it’s a bad time for the open web.
WebKit (Safari) on iOS is the only reason Google can’t completely dictate web standards. If a significant margin of iOS users install a Chromium based Chrome ad we’re back into the “This page works best in IE” days. Except it’ll be way worse.

I own an android and I sideloaded some apps.
I guess it’s not completely in your control, but just be careful what you install.
As long as you aren’t downloading suspicious or weird apps, you’re likely fine. True for pretty much any Os.

The "choice" platform has already been in existence just as long as the iPhone....yet for some reason a small yet incredibly vocal group of people has decided that if iOS and Android don't work exactly the same then Apple must be doing something wrong
Or, get this. People who enjoy iOS simply want to use the device they bought in the way they'd like. Not allowing choices is simply idiotic. Sideloading isn't going to affect YOU if you don't want to use it.
Well less choice, if you want to get all your apps through the app store.

Cool. I can’t wait to get stuck in the mile long queue at my local Apple Store behind a hundred dipshits who side loaded some crap on their phone which has bricked it. Most of whom will be insisting it’s all Apple’s fault too and demanding a new phone.

Because in this hypothetical situation I have some hypothetical business with the Apple store and waiting for one’s turn behind those who previously arrived is how civilised countries handle this situation.

That can only happen if you are an idiot or clueless or involved in a data leak. All Apple has to do is disable it by default and inform users of the option to do it while giving some disclaimer about security and Apple not being liable for malicious apps.

This is not nearly as big of an issue as it appears…
It’s not exclusive to iOS, and there’s nothing preventing someone from making a web app that does the exact same thing…
People worry there’s going to be full malware getting released that scans your files and other app data the minute you install it… but that’s not how iOS works… that isn’t even how Android works.
