Time to buy the only good release of Star Wars.
I cleverly got rid of most of my LaserDiscs ... like ... I don't know... 25 years ago? Something like that. I kept Bladerunner and For All Mankind.
I haven't seen any LDs in three years of my little thrifting runs.
Oh and it does work, first try. Naturally I took it apart first for a quick gander, and except for some dust, it was like new in there. Even the belt was still good. (I think the belt moves the optical block back and forth somehow? It's a bit busy in there with the 5 CD changer capability as well.) I've heard that lenses can just wander off as the glue ages but nope, the pickup looks great.
I still have a copy of For All Mankind that I've kept in a sleeve for decades. It also still looks new, it's pretty cool to see the rainbow sheen on the surface of the disc and watching it spin up was fun!
The player just started playing the disc like it's 1993. There is no way I would buy a LD player that requires shipping these days, besides the cost and not trusting the packaging job, seems deliveries aren't safe in my area anymore.
The thing is HUGE. I kinda regret impulse thrifting it but 12$ doesn't even get you a Big Mac trio.
Good old days
Live from my living room! It's on the floor though, it's truly enormous and doesn't fit on my Kallax.
