Give kyokushin karate a try! It's full contact, so you gotta work hard on getting yourself strong, but the people practicing it are always great, humble, and fun, it's kind of its own sub culture I guess
Thanks for the advice. I was curious about Kyokushin for a while now. It seems intrigueing and more effective than Shotokan.
Have you trained Kyokushin yourself? Would you say it still has a connection with philosophy and mental training like more traditional styles?
I'm a transfem who, once long ago, took an aikido class. I totally get violence. It can be very gratifying. I probably couldn't win any fight, but I like the idea of being handled by a big guy. What you're describing with the motorcycles and such almost sounds like leather culture, which I definitely have engaged with.
Check out Oliver Sacks. He was into motorcycles, he was gay and also a neuroscientist. He has some awesome books.
PS: Martial Arts are hot. Keep doing it.
Thanks for your reply and recommendation. I think that I've heard about Oliver in some context previously and yet didn't quite bother learning more about his work and personality. The combination of neuroscience and motorcycle culture sounds interesting for sure. Maybe you had some book or article about his life when commenting here?
As for the Martial Arts, I'm still considering to try a few as I really like the combination of philosophy, discipline, and training. It's hot when guys embrace the martial way and get into what they are practicing.
