Men gossip too...

My workforce is all men and they bitch and gossip more than any girls I've worked with

Yeah I thought of whether I would say just a group of teenagers in general would be called a gossip since they all do it but thought Chad was funny.

Someone else suggested a Mayhem which is better.

I'd call it a trouble or mayhem.

Oh man that is way better. A mayhem is great.

Another fun one. Geese are a gaggle.

No. Just groups of animals get called cool names, and humans dont get that as often just rude ones.

What's wrong with gossip?

I see you crossed out women and replaced it with teenagers, but men still exists in the description, and if you don't see how assigning stereotypes to groups of people of different genders by giving them a collective noun term is gender wars behaviour - ie, sexist, and just trying to divide people and breed animosity - I'm not really sure how to explain it to you :/

If you can't see how making a statement about my intentions is not akin to conversation I dont know how to explain it to you either. We will just be making statements at each other deciding what the other person "knows" by our own personal biases.

I thought this was a fun idea to give a group name such as we apply to other groups of animals. It is a shower thought, one that is not fully formed and spawned from boredom, not malice.

People rightfully pointed out that gossip is not alone to a group but I am still trying to find a group that it could be a fun title for. Language changes. Should I still be upset that the LGBTQ community adopted queer, as its an insult sometimes and says that people are sometimes unusual or let the phrase exist as something that people identify with.

I will leave you with this... Its not an insult to gossip.

The only reason some (immature) people see queer as an insult is because they fear anything out of anything. But being out of the ordinary is also why the queer community has co-opted the term (and because it also means happy). We want to be able to express ourselves as individuals, it's an inherently political identity. The insult stops working when the people you use it against see it as a positive.

Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
