Those tools aren't perfect, that's how.
Man I wish I was getting that. I’m paying for a gigabit and only get about 500 megabits
Comcast typically tests out about 20% over rated speed. I have the 1.2Gbps plan, but it tests around 1.5Gbps. Not sure if other ISPs are similar.
Don’t know if that would explain the router…I don’t know if every gigabit router has a hard limit.
Test it with iperf3
Most ISPs have a soft cap on their services. This would only last until they get oversold, and then they switch it to a hard cap.
You lucky bastard
damn :(
Your ping seems to be a little high, are you on coax? What time of day was this test run? Are you running this test from the modem or internal network?
Most ISPs deliver a bit more than they promise. Virgin Media's 1G service always gave me 1.2G.
It’s almost like those speed tests aren’t 100 percent accurate
Can't speak for your provider, but if your router only has 1 GbE ethernet ports, this isn't possible. You will need at least 2.5GbE ports to get this speed.
use google speed test. fast.com is trash
Also a device can be rated for a speed but go higher. They guarantee minimum speeds. Usually if it does go over it isn't by much.
In this case though it's just fast.com being wonky most likely.
What is that upload
I have a 500Mbps connection.
Fast.com is usually wrong and says I get 800Mbps-1.0Gbps
Speedtest is much more accurate. Try that.
The amount of times I see the word over-provisioned here is comical. Literally not related to what he is seeing. HIS ROUTER HAS A 1GIG WAN INTERFACE, it cannot and will not run at 1.2gbps lol.
It's because he is full of shit and has a 2.5gig nic in the modem and tried 30 times to get it to read 1.2 cause it almost is 1.1ish max. On a gig card you can't even see a constant 980mbit, forget about higher.
You are lucky our verizon landline gave us one mbps or less for a long time one step above dialup it sure was a slow go until we switched to new provider it was like the difference between day and night. verizon is way behind time getting any fiber out and overcharging for landline phone to make up for it we will see what the future brings
ISPs usually over-provision the link in order to make meeting the speed commitment easier.
Source: work in the industry.
Use iperf3 and connect to a server close to you to get a real measurement
Try speedtest.cloudflare.com
To be honest it’s a lie. It’s likely some buffering on the ISP side that is causing it or it’s just wrong. A 1G interface won’t go above 1G. These are more to make customers or end users feel good. I have a feeling some code is messed up and it’s using 1000 somewhere instead of 1024 and through error stacking you get this. Throwing darts at what it could be but it’s not that high to a single device.
Our fiber isp skews the profile 110/90 down/up. Keeps most of the Speed Test Daniel's at bay and not clogging up the service techs load.
Is it fiber? I routinely see fiber go over the assignment speed by around 300Mbps.
You guys are overthinking this. It's just slightly poorly coded software that is miscaluclating an average.
1gbps = 1000mbps if you think otherwise you've misunderstood the prefixes and don't understand computer history.
Packet overhead should already be accouted for since it's supposed to measure throughout. Not stored data.
Netflix streaming shouldn't factor into this at all unless you mean Netflix stopped caring about accuracy after confirming your bandwidth is sufficient for their highest stream
Fast.com is not really accurate. Use speedtest.net instead....
Or nperf
Are you complaining or bragging? :-)
J/K man. I see others have answered your inquiry.
Most speed tests are predictions.
