Prices from 03/2026 in case anyone is curious

I was curious how the prices compared to inflation so I plugged it into the inflation calculator

$2.55 in 2016 (equal to 1 cheesed burger) has the buying power equivalent of $3.55 in 2026. There is a $.55 deficit which is why we must do eco fascism

Wait these are good prices relative to the other fast food joints

In-n-out is privately owned, and puts out a solid, consistent product at a reasonable price. The menu is simple, and the facilities are always adequately staffed (even though they still get crowded). I'd heard that the wages and benefits are well above par for retail fast food. It's basically what you get if you're in the fast food business for normal reasons (and maybe a mild amount of greed) instead of unlimited greed like every other business and industry.

Biggest flaw? The owners are christian and put a bible verse on the bottom of every soda cup (not even the verse itself, just the name of the verse).

In-n-out and Costco are at the back of the post revolutionary tribunal line for me; hopefully they just voluntarily nationalize after and make it easier for everyone. We will have our hands full with Amazon and the US defense industry anyway.

Having done food costing and shit for numerous non fast food/chain restaurants which are supposed to have notoriously slim profit margins, I'd hate to see a fat profit margin. I know how much everyone makes, I have a good estimate for the bills ans I know the rent, I can easily say that everyone at my work could make a decent living if the owner wasnt ripping us off, or even just ripping us off less. This small local business owner, who went to fucking Harvard and is American (operating in canada) as I found out by looking at her LinkedIn tried to not pay front of house for a mandatory staff meeting. It would totally aroind $200 total to pay out ans someone had to go to the labor board. I think eeking out a modest living on the back of others is unspeakable greed, they arent even satisfied with just being normal rich, they're no better than slave owners because thats what they would be if they were allowed, otherwise there would be much fewer minimum wage jobs

Sounds a lot like cookout in the Carolina’s right down to the Bible verses on food lol. I’m not sure how they are to work for though, but they usually paid better than other fast food places in the area

A little meta and maybe a nitpick, but "food" doesn't need a content warning label. It's dead animals or their secretions (meat/dairy) only that need the content warning. Whether intended or not, it comes across as being rather snarky or disdainful about the rule here to warn about "food" when food is not the not the problem. It would be like if there were slurs or casual ableism in a screenshot image but the content warning for it was "[CW: Human Interaction]"

"CW: Food" instead of "CW: Meat, dairy" looks kinda like "CW: pronouns" instead of "CW: intentional misgendering" or something

i never had an in-and-out burger. or a jack in the box. never been in the geographic footprint for long enough with little else to do but have a borger, but people talk about them both like there's some important cultural experience to be had. i spent a bunch of time in rural New Mex outside of g-town, so I had Blake's which was alright. (red or green, or no? i'm red & green, yeah). also, they call Hardees "Carl's Jr" out there. whatever the fuck that's about.
