Not sure if looking at domestic passports is the way to go (because of non-EU spots the rules in Spain are very relaxed), I went on fbref.com and got 62.25% for Spain

This link mostly cites Sportingpedia? without linking to the source.

It seems like it looks at players with minutes, rather than minutes played.

It also seems to draw a lot of unwarranted conclusions.

Lastly the article is from March.

Without looking it up, I'll guess either Serie A or Ligue 1?

Loads of foreign born players in Italy.

La liga probably since no one wants to go there unless its Barca or Real. Italy is more attractive country and league for foreigners.

This prompted SportingPedia to look into the usage of local players in the different top five European leagues. After going through the numbers, it turns out that in the English elite level of football, only 43.7% of all the players who have recorded minutes this season have English passports. The difference between the Premier League and La Liga is staggering, as in Spain, 83.2% of all footballers, utilised throughout the 2022–23 season have Spanish citizenship.

There is no such thing as an “English Passport”. Do they mean British passport? Does that figure include or exclude players from Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland?

Doesn’t FIFA usually go by country of birth or residence to distinguish the different UK country nationalities?

I reckon 0% of players in English football have English passports

My money is on League of Ireland.

La liga probably since no one wants to go there unless its Barca or Real, it lacks overall attractive teams. Italy is more attractive country and league for foreigners.
