Wouldn't law be the thing for Harvey to teach?

[-] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

Gambling is a form of maths

[-] TheFogan@programming.dev 4 points 2 weeks ago

Gambling and math would seem to me the opposite of two face's concepts. IE the classic coin flip is because he considers 50/50 luck to be fairness. Gambling maths are typically, figuring out how to make something unfair in your favor.

[-] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yet even in his totally fair game, he utilizes proportions.

[-] Harvey656@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Only on Wednesday's.

[-] heartpunk25@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Or do the Rick and Morty thing and call him Two Halves Different face.

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 10 points 2 weeks ago

Definitely not sorry to be that guy, but Gotham is in the United States, and we say "math" not "maths."

Weird fact, as I was writing this my phone autocorrected "maths" as "Martha." I don't know how I feel about it.

I was gonna make the same point, but Bruce Wayne canonically studied at Cambridge and across Europe. No way he's going through that without at least using the two interchangeably.

[-] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

He was also raised from childhood by a British butler.

[-] nightlily@leminal.space 1 points 2 weeks ago

So they just teach the one math then? Would explain why you canโ€™t count to 24.

Hilarious, still underrated webcomic.

[-] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

I was struggling to think of how I could post to the comics communities, but I remembered this gem that I read through years ago.

Have you played Battle of the Bands?

[-] thenextguy@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

he has one half (each) of two faces

[-] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago
[-] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, maths. It's the alternative short form of mathematics.

[-] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago

Not sure two face would use maths over math

[-] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

If any villain would need a plural, it would be Two-Face

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

It's more of a British phrase although Numberphile did a deep dive on the root of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbZCECvoaTA.

[-] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

Funny thing is as a canadian I've never heard anyone here use maths despite the queen's english

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Agreed. I'm British and became a Canadian Citizen when I was 9 and moved back and forth a lot between the two countries.

When I moved back to the UK when I was 25 -- I actually had to get used to hearing and saying "maths". I remember going to school in Sheffield when I was 14-15 and I must have heard it there but it still shocked me as an adult.

[-] morriscox@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Nancy Drew has a girl friend named George.

[-] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

Would actually be funny if it ended at the 3rd panel

[-] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Turns out, cutting out half the joke gives you half a joke.

[-] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world -3 points 2 weeks ago

Yay! Now it ends with a puncline the way jokes are supposed to. Definitely way funnier.

[-] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

The main punchline is in panel 5. I'll try to post shorter comics for you, bless.

[-] theunknownmuncher@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

I really disagree about the main punchline being panel 5, because the 3rd panel is honestly gold.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. ๐Ÿงฌ Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. ๐Ÿ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      โœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      โŒ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. ๐Ÿ“ฌ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 ๐Ÿ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 ๐Ÿ–) will be removed.
  7. ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sรญ, por favor [Spanish/Espaรฑol]
  8. ๐Ÿฟ Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)
