Should be The Quest for More Money

[-] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 61 points 1 month ago

I've been saying for years it should be Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money

[-] hOrni@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago

That was the only acceptable title. How did they screw that up? Makes me have even less hope for the movie.

[-] Butiki@mander.xyz 25 points 1 month ago

I'm okay with this, since Mel Brooks already found the money! Turns out, it was in his basement all along!

[-] Dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org 23 points 1 month ago

"The Quest for more Money" happened offscreen and the heros should complain that such an important event was only communicated through some obscure Event in a totally unrelated medium after being flabbergasted that Money for a Mission was somehow found.

[-] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

“Wait, what about the money? Aren’t we supposed to be on a search for money?”

“They found the money. Didn’t you watch the title announcement video?”

“The what?”

“Was that on Fortnite?”

“Fortnite? What kind of a stupid idea is that? It was on YouTube!”

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 6 points 1 month ago

"Somehow, the money returned."

The other good alternative Rick Moranis suggested would have been

Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II

This is one of the few sequels im very okay with having.

[-] MimicJar@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago

As Mel states in the video, he found the money.

[-] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 month ago

That would be wasting their title to repeat a joke they already told 40 years ago. Instead they went with something timely, poking fun at requels that don’t differentiate themselves from the original.

[-] Dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org 5 points 1 month ago

if they repeat a joke i hope its Yoghurt presenting a flamethrower as "the thing you used to love as a kid"

[-] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

Best joke in the original was the virgin alarm. I could see them pulling off a callback to that.

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

While that was hilarious, I must humbly - yet strongly - disagree.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGvblGCD7qM - 1m40s in when Dark Helmet throws the mic away does it for me. But my favorite joke - not the best, but my favorite - because I didn't catch it the first hundred times I saw - is also in this clip at 2m20s where Dark Helmet taps Colonel Sandurz on the chest - who looks at the hand, the camera, realizes it's coming in, and backs out of the shot. That's just.... oh man, that is like the pinnacle of the detailed thought that went into a very very silly movie.

So many movies just throw actors out there and get them to improv, and that can be great. But the sheer density of hilarity in Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstien and others… it's just a beautiful thing. When it feels like 75% of the movie is quotable. lol

So I don't disagree that the Virgin Alarm was great, but I think the above clip is ten times better. But you're allowed to reverse that rating for you, of course. Long as you and I love the movie, I'm satisfied. :)

[-] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

You got me... the camera zoom reaction is a better joke. But maybe not as good a candidate for a callback!

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

To be brutally honest though, I didn't so much want to disagree as really to just post that clip and talk about it. LOL

[-] daychilde@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

requels

Requels suck. We already quelled enough the first time! :)

[-] dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Lol, more like they went with something boring and completely unimaginative. The quest for more money is a fun throwback for a movie that only exists because it's a throwback.

Like seriously. They aren't making some new IP here. It's a shameless money grab and it would be 1000x funnier if they owned it, it isn't high art my dude

[-] lefaucet@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 month ago

Right?!

The failure to grab this 40 year old payoff makes me nervous about the new movie

[-] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 1 points 1 month ago

The Soich Fuh Moar Moneh!

[-] slazer2au@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Maybe that is the third one. Or it's too on the nose.

[-] snooggums@piefed.world 12 points 1 month ago

It is a joke from the first movie that the sequel would be named The Quest for More Money. This minute long video explains why they used The New One instead.

[-] dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 1 points 1 month ago

And it would've been even funnier because this movie is a blatant money grab

[-] VonReposti@feddit.dk 6 points 1 month ago

Spaceballs 3: The Search for the Lost Sequel

[-] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 3 points 1 month ago

The search for more money!

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 39 points 1 month ago

Please be good please be good

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Or be so bad that we can laugh at it and then forget about it (except occasionally as a joke.)

Just don't be mediocre. Nothing worse than mediocre.

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

I am hopeful. Apparently Josh Gad saw it in a dream, wrote it, and won over Mel Brooks

[-] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 28 points 1 month ago

It should have been called the search for more money!

[-] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 month ago

they already found the money!

[-] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 8 points 1 month ago

Not enough! The search continues!

[-] LordDaveTheKind@piefed.social 21 points 1 month ago

I feel that we definitely need a parody of all those nostalgia reboots.

[-] Butiki@mander.xyz 21 points 1 month ago

Yeah that's why I think this title is pretty good actually. "it's like the old one, but it's newer" definitely seems like a jab at The Force Awakens

Fuck those movies were trash.

[-] Butiki@mander.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah. I try not to think about them. I don't want my day ruined by negative thought spirals and anger...

[-] teolan@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

That's what Matrix 4 was doing this somewhat

[-] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

Video from Mel Brooks about this, for the headline-only readers among us.

Spaceballs 2: AI John Candy

[-] webkitten@piefed.social 9 points 1 month ago

Doubtful; Mel is old school about cinema and John is beloved. If anything they'd mock AI.

[-] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 9 points 1 month ago

It'll be like the new Naked gun movie where the poster had 'no AI was used in making this poster' and he clearly had an early Dall-e 3 hand generated.

It was supposed to be spaceballs 3: the search for spaceballs 2

[-] Uruanna@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

A French movie did that one. Brice de Nice 3: I broke the 2

I'm going to head out to Blockbuster and get Spaceballs 2 on instant cassette.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago

Let us know when you get to this part in the movie.

[-] FirmDistribution@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Spaceballs 3 will be called "Spaceballs: The Other One"
