Instead they went with something timely, poking fun at requels that don’t differentiate themselves from the original. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 7 child comments replies: [–] Dunstabzugshaubitze@feddit.org 5 points 4 months ago (4 children) if they repeat a joke i hope its Yoghurt presenting a flamethrower as "the thing you used to love as a kid" permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago (3 children) Best joke in the original was the virgin alarm. I could see them pulling off a callback to that. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] daychilde@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (2 children) While that was hilarious, I must humbly - yet strongly - disagree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGvblGCD7qM - 1m40s in when Dark Helmet throws the mic away does it for me. But my favorite joke - not the best, but my favorite - because I didn't catch it the first hundred times I saw - is also in this clip at 2m20s where Dark Helmet taps Colonel Sandurz on the chest - who looks at the hand, the camera, realizes it's coming in, and backs out of the shot. That's just.... oh man, that is like the pinnacle of the detailed thought that went into a very very silly movie. So many movies just throw actors out there and get them to improv, and that can be great. But the sheer density of hilarity in Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstien and others… it's just a beautiful thing. When it feels like 75% of the movie is quotable. lol So I don't disagree that the Virgin Alarm was great, but I think the above clip is ten times better. But you're allowed to reverse that rating for you, of course. Long as you and I love the movie, I'm satisfied. :) permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago (1 child) You got me... the camera zoom reaction is a better joke. The quest for more money is a fun throwback for a movie that only exists because it's a throwback. Like seriously. They aren't making some new IP here. It's a shameless money grab and it would be 1000x funnier if they owned it, it isn't high art my dude permalink fedilink source parent [–] lefaucet@slrpnk.net 9 points 4 months ago Right?!
