Recursive? I hope you don't have children

[-] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

I understood that more as "what's inside me".

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 months ago

Ah, that we can work with

unzip; strip; touch; finger; grep; mount; fsck; more; yes; fsck; fsck; umount; sleep

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 80 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

oh yeah you gotta mount that hard drive baby... fsck it real good until it gives you what you need... if you're not sure how to handle it ask the man for instructions...

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 months ago

You don’t have to mansplain

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 4 points 3 months ago

but... but... that's what the man is for... that's all the man knows how to do...

Since a competent typist could type that in at most 3 seconds, it's worth a shot.

[-] imjustmsk@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

what? 3 seconds for "tar --help"???, I could type that out faster in my phone? In a physical keyboard you could type thar in a fraction of a second?

[-] Tiresia@slrpnk.net 23 points 3 months ago

you could type thar in a fraction of a second?

*boom*

[-] imjustmsk@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 months ago

lol that happens when I type in my phone, and my bad I was stupid enough to not read at most.

It should, as long as you don't try to abbreviate it as tar -h though... the short form is tar -? which illustrates the joke nicely

[-] Reygle@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Is

man tar

a Tar command or a Man command?

I'd use tar -help and we'd all die

[-] darklamer@feddit.org 4 points 3 months ago

Probably not, the double-dash long commandline option is a GNU extension and isn't guaranteed to work with every tar implementation.

[-] Barbarian@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 months ago

I use the mnemonic "extract ze file" for tar -xzf

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

tar -xcvf file.tar.gz /dev/random

[-] SirHery@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

Tear would be funnier. You tear the tar open.

Die, Net-Man! (1 finger) 👉💥

[-] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 19 points 3 months ago

I would upvote but 'unzip'? We only 'gunzip' or 'tar xz' here.

[-] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 months ago

Decompress, mount, touch
