Acid i could handle rn, but mushrooms are out. You can just kinda have fun on acid, but eventually mushrooms make you face things

Acid is streets ahead of mushrooms in terms of intensity, for me. But I know it's different for everyone.

I can't handle either anymore, really, but acid over mushrooms is wild to me. The amount of time, the comedown...

Maybe you've never had access to high quality mushrooms then? Being from a place where they can be bought in a store, quasi-legally, I won't eat more than a couple grams of the stronger varieties, because 2 grams will already make me see sound and hear colour. And I ain't no light weight.

But a couple tabs of acid, sure. I'll be vibing hard, definitely acting pretty dumb. But reality will not melt before my very eyes. Might see some cool colours and what not, but it'll always remain controllable. The problem is always the length.

Now DMT is a whole 'nuther thing. 5-10 mins of, holy shit I'm not even on earth anymore, and then BAM, back to reality. It's quite nice.

I could just as easily ask if you've never had access to high quality acid.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound condescending.

But yes I definitely have. That's the cool thing about things, everyone can have their preferences and that's alright.

It's all good. People react differently too. I generally enjoyed mushrooms more, but I always found the hallucinations more tethered to reality-- nature mostly. Like seeing all the patterns and fractals in the trees or waves. Feeling the breathing of the earth. I've had trips on acid where I felt physically and emotionally "normal" but I had 100% visual hallucinations. Like the entire setting around me transforming into something else entirely. And not in a way that I could "shift back" away from.

IF I have like 10-12 hours, I'd take acid over mushrooms any day of the week. So much more predictable, and as someone who has little interest in microdosing, it's a more controlled experience.

I've never had a bad time on acid, but I definitely have with shrooms.

that's what i love psychadelics, they make you stop running away from yourself. when you set yourself up correctly you can do years of therapy in a single night. sometimes it's a painful process (mentally speaking ofc) but it's always worth it, always helping you grow

Darkweb markets get raided or rug-pull regularly.
People don't recommend specific markets, because they probably won't exist for long.
Instead, you'll get recommended to places like dread, so you can find the current 'least untrusted' markets yourself.

Not that i stopped, and would absolutely have either if the opportunity ever presented its self again (probably not). I found that the older you get in general just makes it harder since, at least in my experience, you have way more to worry about that eats at you. Closer to death, more health issues, money could be worse than before, wife/husband and possibly kids to worry about. Stupid things i did in my early 20's would never fly today just because I think things through way more and realize how bad those things were back then lol. Thankfully the few times i was able to do these things were all great experiences despite that, and its most likely to being with good friends who also joined.

damn, its been a few years but i hadn't considered all that extra baggage weighing down a trip now that i am older.

but i think i am due for it. i think it is healthy to have a nice safe trip in a good environment.

i always feel so refreshed for like.. 3 months-ish? after a trip

Also, lsd lasts a LONG time, and it's easier to find a whole day to fuck off into space when you're younger. I've got a kid, I can't get 12 minutes of free time at once, let alone 12 hours.

Yeah that's what's stopped me...I used to trip the light fantastic, but anymore, the thought of ego death isn't liberating, and as I've gotten older my background anxiety (set) seems to only go in one direction. Kids, House, work, etc.. it's a little late for me to tune out and drop out

Depression is hoping a heroic dose of acid causes ego death and maybe life will be slightly less painful afterwards.

I'm just too tired and busy. I had 4 tabs of acid in my psychedelic cupboard. Someone gave me more, now I have 7. One of these years I'll get away and trip my balls off in a forest, but it's not this year.

Why would you wanna trip balls in the forest? That's how you become an acid trip for a bear.

Are psychedelics really this popular, or is lemmy just full of people that like them? I had assumed they were a rather niche thing, but the sentiment towards them here today (and not just this post either) seems notably positive, though the descriptions people give sound existentially horrifying to me. Then again, I get anxious enough towards drugs that Ive not even tried alcohol let alone anything less common, so maybe I'm just the weirdo here.

It definitely depends. It's also hard to tell. My most straight-laced friends from college did acid at least once if not more, and there is a friend or two of mine that I would swear on my life experimented with drugs if I didn't know better.

That's something people don't really acknowledge about drugs. The actual rate of hard abuse or like injuries/death is relatively low. It's like driving a car, it's one of the most common causes of death but the actual chance is so low that you don't really think about that every time you hop in one. Similarly, a lot more people have done drugs (at least once) than you would expect. It's just if you only take acid once there's an overwhelming chance that it won't have any long-term effects (except for the epiphany that there's a wider world out there than just our every day perception lol)

Then again, it varies wildly by region so there's a fine chance that it really isn't as popular around you.

Other that fooling around on lemmy my hobby is going to raves so I use MDMA/MDA/LSD once or twice per month. All my friends I meet them on parties, so using is just part of the social circle, but we do other things sober too, like picnics or board game nights. I work in corporate so is something I don't share with my coworkers, but my wife used to work in a restaurant and was pretty normal to go to party after her shift with her coworkers and get blasted

I think that the nature of Lemmy attracts people who are drawn to seek out new experiences and alternative lifestyles, so it’s less that psychs are widely popular and more this community has a higher percentage of users. That said, I don’t know anybody that does acid on the regular anymore, it was pretty uncommon when I was a teen, and the people who I know who like to trip (usually hippies, ravers, and punks) are typically doing shrooms. Might also be because I live in shroom country so they’re easy to find and cheap if you have to buy them. Gotta say, a few days in the middle of the backcountry with a dose it nice, I can’t imagine doing it and going to the bar on a weekend.

I used to be completely sober all the way through my 30s. I tried things later and they really helped me see life from different angles. I didn't try shrooms until I felt I was ready. They are easily one of the best things that ever happened to me. I would not suggest trying them unless you feel comfortable, are in a very familiar environment, and you have a trustworthy, caring friend to keep you company.

    my theory is:

psychadelics open your mind to love

love makes you more aligned with leftist ideas

lemmy is a decentralised place that was popularised by people with leftist ideas leaving other platforms

an average lemmy user is more likely to have taken psychadelics than the average twitter user

Honestly yeah that's an important act of maturity. I love acid, but I waited until I was ready for it. I haven't done it in years but it was hugely helpful for my self improvement during a difficult and transitional stage of life. Too early and it may not have gone so well

I started early , I watched people lose their minds permanently, I never stopped and found in old age it is a far more enjoyable experience. I appreciate it like a fine work of art that young me just didn't understand. I honestly couldn't imagine what my life would have been like if I couldn't step away from this world from time to time.

Drugs aren't for everybody, I don't recommend them but if you are going to take LSD make sure you have a blast of DMT to go with it. It's the bomb

I’ve never done acid but I did shrooms twice and haven't had the balls to try again.

The first time was ok, but the second time, come-up anxiety was so intense I spent the entire trip throwing up, shitting my brains out, and having a panic attack. I can’t do that again, but I’m still full of anxiety, so.. nope.

Someday id like to try an extract, I’ve heard the mushroom itself is where the anxiety and gastric discomfort comes from, but yeah I’m just not really motivated in case thats wrong.

I am far more mentally stable now than when I was follow the Grateful Dead and doing tons of acid. That was a fun time.
