“Present-day imperialist & neocolonialist intervention”: “capitalism proceeded to introduce… external reforms designed to raise the extra money needed for the… welfare state at home” through “exploitation of the material & human resources of the colonial territories.” “Sham-independence” leaves “economic power under the control of international finance capital.” “Voice of America… pursuing its brainwashing mission” & “the paper war penetrates into every town & village.” Revolutionary warfare is “the key to African freedom,” requiring “an intelligent, egalitarian, critical & self-critical outlook” rather than “hierarchic, coercive & follow-like sheep relationships.” “Discipline comes from inner conviction”“a freedom fighter who steals, loots, rapes or commits any other crime… endangers the whole revolutionary movement.” “Total liberation & unity of the African continent” is the aim.

“A struggle of the past against the future & against hope… of ignominy against dignity.” The “petroleum oligarchy, the big entrepreneurs, the owners of private TV networks… allied in a perfidious pro-coup coalition” aimed to “frustrate the dreams of social justice.” After “the ephemeral coup d’état president, Pedro Carmona (‘the Brief’) rushed out through the back door,” the plotters regrouped to “paralyze the economic heart of the country” via “media terrorism, something unprecedented in history.” “Private television networks & other media… attack the Chavez government 24 hours a day, calling all the time for civil disobedience, disseminating gross lies.” Their objective: “to wipe out in one fell swoop all the just laws” & “reinstate the past with its social exclusion & violation of rights.” President Chávez’s “combative & philosophical words… are an indispensable testimony of the battle that today is being waged in Venezuela for its people, for the ideas of Bolívar.”

Still just working my way through State and Revolution. These days I can't get more than a couple of pages done each day, so it's taking some time despite me enjoying it when I am reading.

I have started Western Marxism by Domenico Losurdo, I've read Liberalism: A counter history and Stalin a critique of a black legend from him, great books.

"This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed: How Guns Made the Civil Rights Movement Possible" - Charles E. Cobb Jr.

[-] Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Damn, strong title! How is it? Worth a read?

[-] Bronstein_Tardigrade@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 month ago

I'm only about 15% into it, so too soon to tell. Found it at a book swap and was grabbed by the title and red cover. "MLK be packin'" is quite the hook.

I finished reading Azar Gat’s British Armour Theory and the Rise of the Panzer Arm: Revising the Revisionists yesterday. To be honest, I’m surprised that my thread linking British armor doctrine to the Third Reich was not more popular, given our low opinion of the British Empire. Oh well, I don’t make these threads only for the clicks, so a low score is not that important to me.

Finished Children of Strife today. It was pretty good.

The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle. Loved one of the adaptations when I was a kid, so I thought I’d give this a shot. It’s okay, at 75% through, it’s heading for 3/5
