Why would these submunitions be bright? Seems more like flares to prevent interception.

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They are moving at hypersonic speeds causing the air in from to them and the munitions own skin to glow from friction heating

[-] CookieOfFortune@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Apparently it’s the result of an interception.

Wasn’t that what cluster bombs were?

[-] Flyberius@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

On a very basic level yes. I suspect these won't suffer from the issue of the sub munitions failing to explode, looking at the speed they are coming in

[-] victorz@lemmy.world -4 points 1 week ago

Is that illegal or just horrible?

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 8 points 1 week ago

War is hell, which is why starting one is just about the most evil thing you can do.

There is a treaty banning the use of cluster munitions, but neither the US, Isntreal, nor Iran are a signatory. Any attempt to use moral outrage by Isntreal or US media is pure propaganda.

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

They didn't sign the convension prohibiting them

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

That's frustrating

Given that the abhorrent Zionist country occupying Palestine has never once followed "international law" in a conflict and just in the last 2 years has massacred thousands upon thousands of children intentionally, I'd say they have lost the privilege of "legal" warfare being waged against them.

I'm not sure why you received the down votes you did, but I also seem to remember using cluster munitions being a war crime, or there being some treaty on it? Which is what this is, right?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_on_Cluster_Munitions (to be clear, im not making a judgement on their use here)

If you are using cluster bombs against an enemy that blows up more than 100 girls in a school, is it really a war crime or is in a war crime neutralizer?

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Iran did not sign it

[-] Railcar8095@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Not defending it or supporting, but legality is often ignored when the order for both sides is to scorch the earth.

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

That does seem to be the case indeed. All these children being murdered on purpose these past years. It's really taking the fun out of being a human being on earth.
