Why is VOX downplaying what he's trying to do?

[-] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 33 points 1 day ago

Because VOX is part of Comcast and Warner and the CEO is a rich white dude

Yeah, and Trump won’t be elected in 2016.

Don’t trust the media.

When Trump go in the ring we laughed an rooted for the guy because thr other options seemed like asshole repeats. Mind you that the American people don't elect their king. The electoral college does that. So then it happened. Asshole became president.

So hopefully we don't get Melania thr first woman president? Or Trump Jr the first nepotism Jr president or the others for the same nepotitical reasons.

He "probably won't be elected AGAIN in 2025" too.

“Elections have to happen in 2028 and Trump cannot be reelected”

I’ll pass judgement that when it happens.

Judges, state leaders and election officials had better prepare themselves for all sorts of fuckery.

Swing state voters should obtain judicial injunctions pre-empting the Trump administration from election interference and voter intimidation of any sort. I think we have enough evidence of Trump's plans to interfere, we shouldn't have to wait for the admin to enact them.

I would really prefer if they just used his frequent and flagrant violation of the law, and those of the institutions he has infiltrated with corrupt lackeys, to arrest and try him as an American citizen, even if such an act would break precedent and convention. I see no such regard for legal or cultural tradition from the administration, and am tired of hearing people say "oh but we can't change anything to defend ourselves no matter how much they change to attack us...".

Until Trump v. United States is overturned, the President is a special boi and can largely be above the law for anything construed as "official act"s, so courts will be of little help in the way you wish.

I reject the appeal to apathy, it's what enables the opposition to just do nothing and act like they don't need to even try and get creative. If Republican judges and politicians can just do whatever and there's no consequences, I want to see more Democrat politicians do the same. Mind you this is what the donors paid (both sides) for.

I don't want to appeal to apathy either. If you read another comment I made in the same thread, I want city and state attorney generals and courts to stop the administration's recklessness, more proactively.

But to try Trump as a normal citizen within the bounds of the court system - as much I would like that to happen myself - that specific avenue you mention is tougher than others for the reason I outlined.

I'm just gonna suggest that we not take anybody's word for it that "it'll probably fail" unless we make damned fucking sure it fails. Voter suppression, screwing with voting machines, vote tallies, people getting to polls, throwing out votes, throwing out voter registrations, stuffing ballot boxes (something they accuse us of which means they're doing it), seizing ballots, ballot boxes, voting machines, voting humans, vote counters, or elected officials… or just ordering the military to drag anyone who protests him canceling the election to Aligator Alcatraz, CECOT, or other concentration camp … any of that is possible.

Guys, the truth is that dictators often come to power (apparently) "legally" in democracies. But never in the history of ever has such a despot elected democratically (presumably) been later deposed by means of an election. Never. Not once. The only reason is might possibly happen this time is that Donald Trump is completely fucking incompetent. But do not underestimate him. Especially not because someone else says you can/should.

Hell yeah let’s all get complacent once again

I heard whoever the Democrats are running is a genocidal transphobe!

Many people are saying. More and more.

[-] DrFistington@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

If we kill him his plans won't mean shit...

This headline could just as easily read: "Unfathomably criminal and corrupt regime plans a plausible hard coup attempt on American soil. Does law matter in the USA?"
