Epic Games have release their 2025 Year in Review for the Epic Games Store, and they appear to be doing doing quite well compared to previous years. Be sure to check out our guide to play titles from Epic Games Store on SteamOS / Linux.

For 2025 they're reporting 317 million total PC users, with a 67 million average for monthly active users (-1%) and 31 million average daily active users (-2%).

Epic has a lot of cash thanks to the success of Fortnite, and they've been burning through it to get people into using their store along with giving out all those free games (100 given away free in 2025). So third-party PC game revenue is essential if they want the store to actually succeed and it appears they are starting to turn things around.

Do the free games count as purchases?

Since 3rd party games hit $400 million in sales last year, I'm guessing no, they must be referring to actual sales.

Obligatory fuck Tim Sweeney.

Epic is a trash heap now. They will continue to receive none of my business.

Epic’s corporate overlords don’t have an original thought rattling around in their collective heads. Their entire business model is to flail around, copy anything that seems remotely successful with a reskin, and hope it sticks. Not even free products will convince me to download their laucher, or anything they put their mierdas touch on.

Would have been nice if steam had any real competition ...

I'm not interested in giving away cash to a company that doesn't respect it's competition, it's customers or it's employees.

Sorry, its, its, its

Simple test, replace it like this: their competition, their customers or their employees

Why unfortunate? Surely competition to Steam is a good thing?

[-] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago

No... Not intrinsicly. Epic is about as anti consumer as you can get. And they are even more anti developer then steam is.

They just ass fuck devs via unreal engine and eac along with poaching games for extremely fucked exclusively deals. So the epic store it self looks "better" because they can abuse it as a loss leader and basically not invest into it at all.

Epic store isn't real competition. It's a competitor only so far in that it's a digital store. But its like comparing Walmart to bestbuy.

If epic had its way everything would be worse then it so it can be on top. Not because it's better but cause it's made everything around it worse so it looks better by comparison.

It's the entire reason the joke valve does nothing and wins. Because they don't give a single fuck what other stores do and just focus on themselves and make sure they arnt abused for the services they offer.

So the worse thing you can say about valve is they have some restrictions on devs that prevent them from abusing services to the point it degrades the consumers experience.

Other then that it's just industry standard stuff that sucks, mostly because outside of only steam no other store actually justifies the costs and downsides of digital distribution.

Understandable, have around 100 games from Epic... Haven't paid a dime tough.

It wouldn't call it salty so much as disgusted down votes. Salty implies someone's jealous, and why the fuck would anyone be jealous of someone else buying a game regardless of where it's from. Makes no damnable sense.

On the other hand it's well known the majority of gamers that frequently online discussions anywhere on the internet dislike the epic store and see it as awful. So calling them disgusted down votes fit.

Yea, definitely felt dirty buying from there, but it's the only store the game will ever be available from, and Remedy makes fine games

[-] Sidyctism2@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago

Wait, does remedy have an exclusivity deal with epic?

[-] dukemirage@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Disgust, lol

it’s just another store people
