This has been my Google Maps alternative for a couple of months now. In general i'm quite happy with it, tough the search is less forgiving than Google Maps.

For people not using comaps in English: currently there is an issue where the devs collect abbreviations in addresses, so if you search for a shortened name of a street comaps can resolve it and find it: https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/786

Been using it for a couple of weeks now and generally I like it. Compared to google/apple/Waze, on well known routes, it sometimes suggest a weird (technically not wrong, but weird) way, but it will get you to the destination without massive detours. Other than that it works well. One thing it does better than any other navigation app is hiking routes, that shit is friggin’ amazing.

If you have particularly strange routings, feel free to send examples somewhere. As they can be due to OSM errors too, it's always good to have a look on whether the CoMaps routing is having an issue or if the underlying data can be fixed!

What's difference with organic maps?

[-] waldfee@feddit.org 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's a fork of organic maps (from https://codeberg.org/comaps ):

The CoMaps project was initiated in response to the growing concerns and dissatisfaction with the Organic Maps project leadership. The original Organic Maps project, while initially promoted as an open community effort, faced significant issues related to governance, transparency, and the potential for shareholder profit at the expense of the community. These concerns were detailed in the Open Letter to Organic Maps Shareholders. Despite some positive steps, the lack of a substantive resolution has led us to establish a new, independent path: CoMaps.

Thank you for the links to the info! One of the links 404s for me.

I think i fixed it now by including a space before the parentheses, although both links work for me; it might depend on your frontend.

I am a longtime OSMand user, but I guess it's time to try it out

OSMAnd excels at other types of mapping. CoMaps is great for getting around town and I also have OSMAnd setup for backcountry navigation in a way that CoMaps could never replicate. I enjoy both
