Bonus:

NuTomic, tankie Lemmy dev has been to Cuba on a holiday (no one ever did that!):

ML user talks about "echo chambers". I love the irony on this one.

I will also note I don't find America-style polemics to be convincing, so for me the use of the term "echo chamber" is a massive red flag (strong likelihood of ostentatious posturing and cultural preference for provincial world salad).

"bizarre “Tankie triad” conspiracism"

I love how the tankies think that using specific terms "conspiracism" or "orientalism" is like a "I win" or I am right" button.

No you sleazy motherfucker, no one is buying your bullshit. Look up the term "conspiracy theory" in the dictionary:

conspiracy theory, an attempt to explain harmful or tragic events as the result of the actions of a small powerful group. Such explanations reject the accepted narrative surrounding those events; indeed, the official version may be seen as further proof of the conspiracy.

Who is the "small powerful group" in this context? Where is the rejection of the accepted narrative?

Can't speak specifically to Cuba, but at least some of the countries glorified by tankies are nice only for a privileged foreigner on a short vacation. It's not like they'd protest against the government there to get arrested, and if they do, their country will be very focused on getting them out. They likely won't speak the language to understand what's being said in the media day to day. They also wouldn't live the life of the average citizen able to feel the weight of lower incomes and other quality of life issues associated with the government taking too much for itself and leaving little for the people. If they're a minority and they can keep it to themselves, they probably will "out of respect", thus no consequences. It also doesn't help when they're a tankie who thinks there's no problem with China or Russia isolating themselves from the rest of the internet for example, but even so, it's relatively easy when it's brief, not something you inescapably put up with every year.

Edit: I'm also reminded of Hasan visiting China but then comically asking "can I be out with this Chinese flag?" or something like that, as if his subconscious was telling him that even something as trivial in the West could get him in trouble there. It's evident he was being very careful, if not self-censoring.

"Forget it Jake, it's MLtown"

It is astounding to see the groupthink that moderation has managed to cultivate there.

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.

Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned.

Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
