It's interesting to hear the petit-bourgeois single issue politics guy say that he probably doesn't agree with a lot of Mamdani's policies.

It's a triumph of propaganda, indoctrination, and an abject lack of political education that people don't see these two as having very similar political beliefs (for better and for worse) including Rossman himself.

Both of them would agree on 90% of issues and the only real disagreements that would occur is in Rossman's strange, politically incoherent commitment to soft libertarian "the market will fix it" principles while simultaneously advocating for reform and better regulation to compensate for the excesses and abuses inherent in the market. But he hasn't connected those dots and I doubt he will because, to paraphrase Upton Sinclair, it's difficult to get a person to understand something, when their economic position depends on them not understanding it.

It's classic white American-flavored petit-bourgeois mentality to want to rewind the tape to the 50s or so, where "government wasn't so big" (take a seat Árbenz) and "companies cared about their products and their employees" (never mind how minority employees were treated and disregard the lack of OSHA and similar regulations in this era.)

Nostalgic pining for an idealized era of capitalism that you didn't exist in is an ideal way to piss any motivation for genuine political change up the wall. It's the perfect psyop. Both Mamdani and Rossman are much closer to FDR politics than either would admit, same goes for their respective fanbases.
